How to successfully group when not doing dungeons?

While exploring in a group, how do you stay together and focused when there's black arrow quests on the way to another quest or other points of interest that are distracting? I'm having a hard time just grouping with 2 other people this way, even more so when 1 or 2 of us already have done quests that another member just triggered.
How does one successfully lead a group of individuals at their own level with their own mind?

When grouped, the group picks a leader or the quest they are doing. Then you follow that leader or do that quest. A good group will not only need a good leader but will need good followers. Keep track of the people you can follow this set up and group/help them often, the ones who go off on their own during while grouped, let them go and find a replacement for them.

I'm yet to experience this joy; however perhaps a different approach - maybe turning of the compass when you group up? Wouldn't suprise me if there was an add-on which did this with a single click, it's likely called "Adventure mode for group play!" or "Adventure mode!" for short.

Anywhoo, I think it could be fun or irritating depending on yours and your groups disposition - disabling the compass whilst you group that is. It's an awkward sounding suggestion, I know, I know - but hey, young people can have lots of fun with just a cardboard box and their imagination.

It's going to be difficult regardless of what you do unless you can all come to an agreement with a direction where you'll all travel to. This may mean "repeating" quests, should phasing permit.

One of the members is a close personal friend so replacing him isn't really an option. The problem is trying to lead someone who has a completely different play style then me which I don't think will work.
