Should there be an option to switch alliances?

The Reason I ask is this. I am level 40 and I have some friends that play and I didn't realize this do to them not being on when i started. I really don't want to have to start leveling a whole new character already. Though now we are extremely limited in what we can do in game because of the fact we are on different alliances.

I was thinking there should be an option to switch your alliance. Either some time end game or anytime with a fee, or something along those lines. I know they don't want one alliance to become overpopulated, but I'm sure there is a way to regulate that. I know other MMO's do this and I was hopping this could become an option.

Let me know what you think and hopefully the developers will consider this.

i think they could add it to the crown store but honeslty it might be hard to do this because all three factions have a diffrent story line and diffrent side quests so it would be tough to switch factions right in the middle.

i could see them adding faction change once you beat cadwells gold and silver and your done with the story.

but think about this if you are in a diffrent factions then your freinds then you could all go into pvp and duel each other that could be cool.

In some form, yes. However I think that it should be restrictive and have a cooldown before you can do it again.

Or form a ragtag group of rebels from different factions as one team and goes around killing anyone/any faction on sight.

LoL, I have heard of this alt thing you speak of. That's why I mentioned I did not want to have to make another character yet. Thanks for responding though.

haha yeah im in a dueling guild that consists of all 3 alliances and we meet up and duel each other and whenever anyone stumbles upon us they always try to take us on but get destroyed from all sides and get no help form anyone in their faction thats with us.

Well after you beat the your factions story, you get to do the others anyways right? So why not be able to just switch after you complete your alliances story?

I agree with having a timer or fee of some sort. That way you don't have people just jumping back and forth. Or even just a one time only change.

I wouldn't mind seeing an option to switch after you complete Cadwell's gold.

It's not about switching when done with a faction. He's hasn't reached coldharbour yet (ok, nvm I've seen like 2 threads where level 30s ask why they're so low level in coldharbour...) and by that logic hasn't completed faction's story.

Let's keep it simple with examples:

Let's say you just finished alik'r and are moving into Bangkorai (DC), how would the game know where to put you if you switched factions. Does it just start you all the way over at first quest (same level tho) or put you in closest quest region (going by player level) and let you miss all the previous quests/xp? It's not something you can easily do. And even if, off those two ways I said, they were able to do then people are going to be mad either way about how they do it (e.g. 'I was in bangkorai, why do I have to start out in auridon instead of reapers March???')

You do realize by adding in a option to switch your alliance that it would break PVP and the Leader board system not to mention imbalance the game in general? Even if people only had the option to switch their alliance once they got to end and figure which was the best alliance in the game to join.

The official stance is that this is never happening. This is due to faction quests / progress.

The only way I can see this working, is if they rigged it to happen only after Craglorn when you are finished with Cadwell's Gold - but there is probably something preventing that as well for all we know.

There have been numerous threads on this.

It -would- make a neat rewaed for people who struggle through all of cadwells silver&gold... which incidentally would also avoid any troubles with questline entanglements.

Of course, one would hope IF they ever add it, they would do it in form of a nice "loyalty called in doubt" quest, where ones character would get to make a choice - stay in your faction and find evidence proving your loyalty, or defect and spend the quest making that happen...
