FInally, risk vs reward in ESO!

I just can't wait for the Imperial City update.

It brings to this game what has always been missing, risk vs reward.

Please don't listen to the hordes of people who are going to cry about losing the Tel Var stones when they die. Don't let the casuals take this away from us aswell, they've already gotten the difficulty nerfed down so hard you can solo bosses naked.

If the update brings what I saw on ESO Live, hardcore players will finally be rewarded and entertained in ESO for the first time since launch.

Thanks ZOS

We need a pre-emptive "Keep the 100% loss factor" thread on the main page ASAP. It needs to be 100% If it gets reduced once, it will be reduced again until there is no risk at all. You know there is going to be tears and lots of them. There is already tons of rage when someone dies in PvP and yet currently there is NO RISK or penalty whatsoever for dying.
    • All your items/ potions/ gear is safe from looting
    • Your gear doesn't degrade from player kills
    • You don't lose gold.

The worst thing that happens to you when you die is that you have to play horse simulator to get back to where you were before. It was even worse when we had forward camps and you could port immediately back on to the battlefield.

Now there is risk and reward. For the first time. God help us the tears will blot out the sun.

Which hopefully gets fixed with this update now that they know about it. That particular post got removed quick.

Those of us who mainly PvE can't have our Tel Var Stones from daily quests looted from us, so that's one good thing. I'm going to laugh when the PvP areas turn into a barren wasteland of nothing but NPC mobs and gankers stealthed in corners waiting for someone to come along, but no one is going to come along because the only other players in the area are other stealthed gankers....

I was thinking, what about an avenger bonus?
Player x gets killed by player y, gains all TVS.
Player z (who shares same faction as player x) kills player y within a restricted time limit of meer seconds.
Player z gains all TVS, system provides player x with % of original TVS losses.
If player y is killed by an enemy faction no bonus is accrued, leaving player x with nothing.

This could give an incentive for small grouping as zerging will give less ROI per player and solo ganking would be excessive risk.

You want a challenge? Why not PVP play where you lose half of your gear and all of your gold?

PvP'ers in this game don't want that, they want easy pickings. If there was the possibility of them losing some gear or gold, they would be the first ones to start the whine threads.

I'd be down for full loot PvP. Unfortunatelly the limited storage space in this game would make it difficult to stockpile multiple sets of gear. Plenty of successfull MMO games with full loot. It actually balances out because you have a stock pile of gear from killing other players as well, and you generally dont roll around in your best most expensive rare gear all the time.

Meh. I like the concept, but don't think they will pull off the execution. Zergs will rule this setup until they come up with a good way to deal with them that gives them no rewards in AP, XP or stones.

I wonder how they would actually react if this looting was implemented into something that actually made sense from a risk/reward PVP point of view. Their AP. that thing that you get from actually doing pvp.

These are the same guys that want to gank the unprepared PVE players but are opposed to a well balanced small/medium scale PVP options where people would go prepared and eager to pvp for PVP sake.

As long as there is a reward, no matter how small, the zergs will still be there. If your small group can't get back to the safe zone before a large zerg rolls over them, rewarding small groups better then large groups won't matter.

Your small group plays for an hour and earns 500 TV stones (just a guess for now) but gets steamrolled by a zerg before they can bank them, the small group play reward equals zero.

Your zerg kills everything in it path for an hour and earns 100 TV stones, and is able to bank them, zerg group play rewards 100.

Haha, how is it easy pickings? You just assume I am top tier because I PVP? I enjoy the excitement and I enjoy the risk, win or lose I don't care. There also IS a possibility for us to lose Tel var stones as much as the next person, and I know I'm not complaining.

I really wish everyone in this thread who are "Wow finally a risk vs reward" to one day, when coming out of work after 8 hours of working. Just after exiting door be bashed into head and mugged of all your earning, wallet and cash.

I wonder if when you will wake up in hospital you would be all joyful "Wow such greaf risk vs revard"

Tel val stones looting will support only harassment and will poison eso community.

All the PVPers who use false reason why its so fun, the "risk vs reward" are just want to get everything handed to them without work.

PVE players spent time and earn their stones.
PVPers want to just gank someone because they got the opportunity and steal their WORK.
Leeching and harassing at its finest.

Yeeea.... I work 12 how shift and that sounds like a bad wrap. Thank God it's a video game. Risk vs Reward is a fundamental factor in any PvP scenario, whether it's Star Craft, Halo, CoD, League of Legends, Counter Strike, Civilization, Smite, Clash of Clans or even chess. If risk vs reward were not involved we would be playing complex versions of Pong.

And don't bother labeling me a PvPer, as most of my posts generally deal with PvE elements, I just understand and appreciate the PvP point of view from other games.

I think it's a great system but I could live with losing half your stones each time you are killed. I'm not afraid to lose all or take all, but I think it might be more appealing to the center player base if they knew they could get in, get some stones, and even if they didn't make it back...their effort was rewarded.

While this can be easily shouted at with "L2P PvE scrub" etc. it's actually true that you can take down any player with proper group class+skill setup. This alone renders solo PvP against Tel Var stone hunting groups utterly pointless. You either go pro-team vs pro-team or lose at sight. Not sure if that's how it was meant to work, but 100% sure that's how it will end up working.

    It's all about balance.
I don't think you should loose all your current stones upon player defeat. I think 50% would have been plenty to both, elicit the risk against reward feeling without having people loose everything they've just collected due to one mistake/gank.

If the update brings what I saw on ESO Live, hardcore players will finally be rewarded and entertained in ESO for the first time since launch.

Casuals always win over the hardcore, in most MMOs. Expect this to be tweaked a few months after release.

Also, you have been entertained since the day you started playing this game, otherwise you wouldn't be here now, so that statement about being entertained for the first time since launch is incorrect.
