I'm kinda confused how the auction house works...

Why are there so many different auction house?

I need to buy a new healing staff for my healer, but when I look, there are different Auction Houses (or Guild Traders) and I don't understand why there are so many different ones with different things. Why aren't they all just linked together instead of me having to check every single one?

There is no universal auction house.

Guilds can bid for traders which allows people outside of their guild to buy from them. It is a good idea to join one or two large trading guilds. I find that joining at least one helps reduce the amount of searching you need to do.

So are these guilds actually real guilds I can join with a guild leader?

Yes @Chieve they are player made guilds you can join. A guild can bid to hire a trader each week - the bids are blind and highest bidder wins.

Check out the guild sub-forum and looking for "trading guilds" or generally any guild that boats regularly having a guild trader.

Well they are trying to simulate a feel of adventuring and coming across different guild and trading with them. The boat for a centralised auction house has left a long time ago, and will never be coming back in the foreseeable future.

You want to make the most of the system we have? Here is how.

Join 5 Guilds, typically the mix is a PvE/Social Guild or two, A PvP Guild, or two (the mix of PvE and PvP depends on what you do in the game), then two or three Trading Guilds. Even non trading guilds can have active guild stores. Remember you don't need to have a Guild Kiosk to have a Store, that just allows you to sell to the public. In fact, it might be better to be in a guild or two that does not chase a Kiosk as guildmates tend to sell to each other for less. You can drop a guild with a button click to join another one if the stores are not active or have a bad selection.

So, now you have 5 guild stores to choose from. And you can do that from the Bank for all 5.

Then, go to a town that has 4 to 6 Guild Kiosks and a Bank. In just a few minutes you can search out 10 or more Guild Stores to find what you need. You will find what your looking for.

I rarely ever fail at finding what I need by searching this way, and if I do, I just go to another trading hub.

In the off chance that you can't find what you need, make a note of the people who are selling crafted items in the stores. Send that player an email and ask them to make you something and work out the details that way. If they are in the same guild as you are, then you can see if they are online before you send the email out.

Yes. And if you join a trading guild, you don't need to go to their trader to buy from their store. You can do it from any bank.

But you can visit all the guild traders in the game to shop for a better deal if you like.

Also, what kind of healing staff are you looking for? If you are a member of a trading guild, you may have a number of crafters that would be willing to custom make you a staff for a reasonable fee.

    Yes!

You can join up to five different guilds. Not all guilds are good trading guilds though, you can ask in the zone chat to join an active trading guild.

If you'd rather not have to join multiple guilds and teleport between 100 different traders just to have a chance at maybe finding what you are looking for, you are more than welcome to join us at ESO Trade.
Can't find the items you are looking for? Need a place to trade? We welcome ESO players of all platforms at ESO Trade, the home for trading of goods and services in the lands of Tamriel.

Why is everything so expensive with the Guilds when I can, with a little patience, just get the stuff for free out in the world?

I am not paying 200K for a resto-staff. I'll make due with what I've got. I don't care if it's purple or gold.

The prices on the PC were ridiculous in the first month also. I am not sure where people get the gold to buy things at the prices that are listed, I know I was pretty broke for the first couple of months in the game, but I was deconning everything to level crafting.

However, they will drop, and also, just because someone lists at an absurd price does not mean it ever sells for that price. Heck, some even list things at high prices to use the Guild Store as a Bag Slot, but that is expensive considering you have to pay for the listing. Upgrading your horse would be cheaper in most cases.
