PC + mics

What's the hold-up? And will it ever happen? I find myself running Dungeons repeatedly just for a bit more of a social but the lack of mic chat is a bit of a downer.

There is no hold up, they aren't working on it and never said they would. Most of us are on guild voice chat anyway.

Teamspeak III , Vent, Mumble, are but a few that are completely free for personal use, easy to set up (your own local server or just the client) and work like a charm. You can also rent preconfigured servers for very low $.

Personally, I recommend Teamspeak. The setup is simple, you download, install, follow the wizard to set your settings and you're good to go in <5 minutes. You can get a headset with excellent noise cancellation for $10 delivered to your door (I'll provide link if anyone wants it.) that will give you studio quality sound.

The only thing that might take some adjustment is setting your voice chat sound to come out of one speaker set while your primary sound comes out of the main. You can also have all sound come out of a better headset, if you wish.

Normally, most up to date sound cards have wizards to simplify this, as well, setting up one as primary source, the other as secondary.

There is no reason to implement this via ESO. The platforms above are proven and that's all they do. You don't want ZoS dabbling any more than they already do - the result will not be a good one.
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

IRL'ing for a while for assorted reasons, in forum, and in game.

I tried setting up my own server, it was a pain in the ass and never happened. The only servers I have used are other people's as a result, and not everyone has one.

I personally would love to see an ingame voice chat option, although, there are more important things that ZOS could be, and hopefully are working on.

Having the support does not mean everyone will use it.

Most players play video games to relax and this includes not having young ones shouting in their ears ;)

How does TS/Mumble work in PUGs though? Feels more like a workaround than using the social and strategic potential of mics in dungeons.

Also, don't they use mics in console, without much problem?

Many years ago WoW introduced in game voice support just like OP is asking for. After a long development time it was fairly quickly abandoned. PC players use the programs mentioned above (teamspeak, mumble etc). It can be more challenging in PUGs but even there people often share a VOIP with the puggers. Worst case, they simply type. I think it would be pretty much a waste of resources for zenimax to waste time on PC voice chat
