This started in the comments of another thread but was off topic. So decided to move it here.

Do you guys feel Imperial City is P2W?

"Games that let you buy better gear or allow you to make better items then everyone else at a faster rate and then makes the game largely unbalanced even for people who have skill in the game without paying.
Dude, you've spent like 400 bucks on this game so you can beat everyone who hasn't spent any money. Pay-to-win noob!"

"23 completely new Veteran Rank 16 item sets, only available in Imperial City"
23 Super Powerful Sets no one else can get means you pay money to get better gear than everyone else and win right (partly a troll but thats how I read it)

Is ESO going to far into the P2W route, XP pots, Gear sets, max horses, potions, racial motifs!!

No... not really if people choose to not upgrade the game with dlc is not p2w it's how mmos work like wow just because I didn't buy mist of Pandora and got to lvl 90 and every one else did doesn't make it pay to win because I'm still lvl 80 and choose to be so. and xp pots are easily obtained through in game resources so no its not pay too win

Imperial city you can get to V16 with or without buying it I think, the gear is lock behind a pay wall tho, didnt know if you understood.

But dlc is apart of the game if you don't get it then you choose not to have the full version and assess to the gear.. v16 gear is in not just in imp city certain sets are kinda like pvp gear vendor only get it in cryodiil

Yes, people who never buy any DLC will be at a disadvantage. The only way to avoid it would be giving all DLC content for free and it isn't an option for obvious reasons. Luckily, you can still use v16 gear, you just won't have access to ALL item sets. They may or may not be "super powerful", we don't know yet. In any case, buying the DLC won't automatically make anyone win anything.

I agree with this. Many of the new sets will be BoE, so are able to be traded/sold freely - which includes to people without the DLC. I also think that for it to be P2W.. these sets would need to be sold for crowns directly. Even if you get the new content, you don't automatically get these new sets - you still need to earn them.

Is WoW P2W, as you have to purchase expansions to stay on par with others?

    No, I didn't think so.

We are paying for content, we are not paying for boosts.

This is how MMOs make money, by releasing content (which you can gain access to by doing the same as before - subscribing).

We dont have the whole information yet. How can I discuss? As far as I know some of the gear is bound on pickup but what sets we dont know yet. This gear will be the only one that you cannot get without DLC. All the other sets will be bound on equip and the new craft sets too. According to me it is not p2w because I have to go and farm the gear, I cannot buy it.

Most of the stuff from IC (i.e. everything that isn't BOP) can be used by anyone. You may not be able to enter IC yourself if you didn't buy the expansion, but you can still use the gear other players bring from there.

I never understood people think call a game pay 2 win when it is obvious it is not even remotely so.

For starters if you were a subscriber for the first year you were awarded enough crowns on conversion to outright buy this DLC for no out of pocket cost.

Secondly, the Crown to In game gold conversion rate is roughly ~ 48,000 gold per 1000 crowns. (Calculated by comparing cost of Exp Pots with Exp Scrolls). Basically if you understand this and you spend 1000 crowns on Exp scrolls you're a moron as you can get much more gold for much less $$$ from gold trading sites if you need gold.

So it boils down to the only thing you should be spending crowns on is DLC packs and most of us should have enough crowns saved up to buy the next 2 DLCs and I doubt the game will last much longer than that anyways. If you spent all your crowns on carebear costumes and ponies well that's your own damn fault.

P2W! Blizzard and every other MMO company have dared to ask for money for an extension, that has new items contained that you can only get if you have bought the extension and you can only go there if you have bought the extension and you have to pay subs for years and years and years and... *deep breath, purple face*... this is so unfair und now you have to spend money to stay at the top and this is so P2W and this is not allowed and this is unfair and this is not what was promised and... *drops dead*

Man, calm down. Stop with this P2W lamentations. If you insist on IC being free of charge content and they don't give it to you - stop playing. But right now, all you do is make a backside out of yourself.
