With more dropped sets and pve/pvp rewards being added to the game, while crafting doesn't seem to get much other than new motifs, I'm starting to feel like crafters are being left in the dust.
All iof the best gear is now coming from pledges, dungeons, and pvp, when zos repeatedly stated during development that they wanted crafted gear to always be on par, or even better than, dropped gear. All the motifs in Tamriel mean nothing if everyone is going to be going for these "elite vet 16 gear sets".
Time investment is another issue. As a master crafter I have literally poured months into researching traits to make sets that pale in comparison to a lot of dropped sets. At this point even if they add new crafted sets, it's going to take several months worth of research to even be able to make them, while everyone else goes out and gets top gear in a week or two from the new content.
Something needs to be done to make the time and resource investment that crafting demands worthwhile, and not just a way to gear up low level alts.
The first step should be style conversion. A crafter should be able to convert any piece of armor or any weapon into a racial style that he has unlocked. A step further would be to allow crafters to change not only the style but also the level aesthetic - let's face it, a lot of low level armor designs just blow higher level gear out of the water when it comes to appearances.
Second is level upgrading. A crafter with the right materials should be able to raise the level of any weapon or armor to the max their crafting skill allows. I should be able to take a level 6 leather helmet and continually upgrade it all the way to vet 16 if I want. This would alleviate material strains as well, by allowing you to craft a legendary item and keep using it even if the level cap is raised - a vet 14 legendary sword could be upgraded to vet 15, then vet 16, with just some extra base materials added in.
Lastly, add a way for crafters to learn how to make dropped and pvp only sets. If my crafter picks up a cowl of the warlock, he should be able to reverse engineer it in order to unlock the ability to make a cowl of the, warlock at any level. Require each piece to be researched seperately to add a little time investment to making full dropped sets.
