A new magicka DK

So I have heard good things about the magicka Dk and I decided to try one. OMG they start off so slow. I am only lvl 10 but I feel so weak compared to other ranged classes. How did the rest of you get through the early boring levels? It seems like the good stuff come later.

Spec a different way for leveling and then re-spec for end game PVE/PVP?? OR they are using magika a different way than you are.

This is roughly what I had around lvl 10. It was a pain to get through the first 15 or so lvls, but then it started to open up. One thing I do is lvl all class trees and a couple of weapon lines and all armor types to leave the later game more flexible. Just like use one skill from each class tree on my bar and a weapon skill or two. As far as armor, if I want to go light in the long run, I always use 5 light 1 med and 1 heavy, just so I can have the option to change later and not have to worry about leveling them up at higher levels. Anyway you do it, good luck and have fun, but I was just letting you know I had the beginning struggle too.

I'd go 2h personally, that's what I'm doing and a destro staff, my 2h bar is a couple melee range spells (searing strike, stone fist, spiked armor) and my destro bar is my aoe cc bar (dark talons, eruption, etc). No problems so far.

Not a ranged class and it first skills are noticeably weaker than the other classes initial skills.

I do understand that it's not a ranged class but I was just noting how weak it starts of compared to the other magicka classes.

I just started a magicka DK too, it's been incredibly easy since level 1, all I need is Molten Weapons and fire staff heavy attack, enemies blow up with one shot. I also slot Dark Talons, Stonefist and Fiery Breath for some aoe and CC, later I plan to add Scales to help with ranged enemies in public/group dungeons.

Thanks for the above link! What are you guys using to avoid damage? Right now I am using obsidian shield. Seems to work really well when I put it on right before the fight and I really like the foot slam animation lol.

I'm a magicka DK too. I use two inferno staves. One bar for single target, the other for cc and aoe. Regarding survivability, i use igneous shield(morph of obsidian shield) and green dragon blood. With the shield up i don't have to pop gdb or potions all that often when questing or killing mobs. Dungeons and bosses, gdb is invaluable. Sometimes i'll use a resto staff on my back bar for dungeons but haven't been lately. I'm level 36 now and with all my passives i'm burning up most things before i take too much damage. Also, flame lash and burning embers really help with survivability as each have heals.

Great stuff Jackiemanuel! I think I will do the same type of setup. Thanks ! I heard it's best to get all the Ardent flame passives. Is this true?

I'm assuming that all available passives are good to have eventually, but yes i focused on ardent flame, racial, and light armor initially. Also destruction staff. At level 36 i have all the passives in those skill lines and a few from draconic power and earthen heart.

This thread has a lot of great info about magicka DK's. I've followed the advice therein and it's not only helped me be stronger but also improved my understanding of the class. I too was underwhelmed early with my DK. I also was overwhelmed and ignorant about this games mechanics for the most part. Sometime after level 15 things began to make more sense. There's a lot of helpful people on this forum. I've never had a question not answered.

I'm a DK dps, I run a destruction stuff and medium armor across the board. I'm currently level 34, but I remember level 10 and what you are talking about!! Hang in there, if you pay attention to the different skill lines, there are quite a few aoe attacks and things like fiery breath, talons and a couple things that will stack withpassives to give damage over time. The secondary ability bar at level 15 helps put it together. Trust me, level those destruction staff passives and when in combat, stack those aoe's and those skills that continue to burn and you will be a force to be reckoned with!!!
