ZOS apparently doesn't understand my favorite word...
There are 0 reasons to not have toggleable options to suit our needs in the game.
The 'mershionists can have their "I like to wander around lost" game and the min'maxers can have their "numbers out the ying yang" game and no one has to tread on anyone else because...

So...two guys like to dragrace cars.
One guy likes to work on his car, and get the most out of his engine by tweaking things and using instruments which give feedback....you know, numbers.
The second guy just likes to get on the track and race his old beater.
You're saying the "rules of the track" should be "no working on your cars" because it isn't fair to "Guy #2".
No thanks.
I like a little grease on my hands.

Ok first off, it was not JUST the so-called "immersionists". It was immersionists AND the people who didn't want to reinforce the 'WoW mentality' by making the player base feel like it needed floating numbers and DPS charts to play legitimately. Also it was part of ZOS's fabled "vision"--but the customer is always right as they say so whatevs.Optional Things they don't want because it will "break emmersion"...

However, they give us that stupid Quest List in the top right corner.
That thing distracts me more than anything when I am just gathering resources, or just exploring the contryside.
Who makes these decisions?

Yeah, ZOS, the company that keeps on giving.

Played A believes it's best to have exact numbers telling them their exact stats. Works for him.
Played B just reads the info already provided to him and does the same thing. Works for him.
I run a heavy armor Templar. I know the numbers that matter. If I have a helmet that has 1000 armor I know that one with 1100 armor is better. If I have a choice between a spell that does 1000 damage and one that does 1100 then I choose the second one unless there is a really good reason not to like casting time.

Really?
The ingame description of "Flurry" under dual-wield weapons makes it sound pretty darn good.
However...it ain't.
And, that is just one example of something I learned by watching a PC Player's video...a player that used an Add-On and had numbers to actually compare that ability to others under Dual-Wield.
Game developers are notorious for not describing things very well...they seem to think that we were in their meetings when these things were developed, so we obviously know what those vague descriptions mean.

So...two guys like to do Solo PvP.
One guy likes to work on his character, and get the most out of his gear/skills by tweaking things and using ingame options which give feedback...you know, numbers.
The second guy just likes to get in the game and use any old gear/skills he happens to have equiped.

I like to know exactly what my character is capable of.
===============================================
Even without any ingame options to actually SEE the numbers people will still min/max their characters.
The fact that there are numerous websites devoted to builds just proves that point.
What many players want is the ability to do this "number-crunching" FOR THEMSELVES, and not have to rely on third-party websites made by PC Players that use add-ons that are not usuable on consoles.

Not particularly ones I want, or would use.
I would only want/use 5, 6, 7, 9, and 10.

1. Damage Numbers - Yes, that one was immersion
2. Buff Indicators - This was because they didn't want to give people unfair advantages. However, this one is also likely to be changing in the future
3. XP Numbers - Are unnecessary, as (on PC) you can see how much XP you have by hovering over the bar
4. Mini-Map - Not appropriate for an Elder Scrolls game
5. Text-Box - On console? Because text is hard to read on a TV screen, or otherwise takes up too much space
6. Group Member Icons on Compass - Was tried, didn't work properly, put on the back-burner
7. Character Names instead of Account Names - The excuse for this one was "first party policies" and not wanting to create confusion
8. Optional Floating Name Plates with Guild Name - Unnecessary since nameplates appear when you look at a character
9. M/HP/S Numbers over their Bars - Yes, this one was immersion
10. Key Re-Mapping - Due to the combi-buttons, it's hard for them to make them remappable, as you could inadvertently unmap something while trying to set something else

I totally agree with the OP, at least give us options, especially on console.
Also I thought the analogy was fine, F- for pointless criticism that added nothing to the thread.
