2 Q's: restoration skills and stolen collectible

I'm confused about 2 things:
Why does the game warn me when I am about to sell a stolen (blue) collectible or treasure to a fence? I thought it wasn't needed for any purpose, and best used to sell towards legerdemain skill.
second:
I'm playing a sorcerer. Is the only self-heal available to me a restoration staff? So far my restoration skills talk about healing allies, which to me would not include me. Can someone tell me if restoration skills will heal me, and also if there are any other self-healing options for me in the game? Since my character is a high elf, I'm really aiming for the destruction staff, but I sometimes use the restoration if I feel like the fights I'm getting in are leaving me with little health.
Also, I see builds where people put all points into only one area, i.e. health, stamina, or magicka. Is that really how we should do it? I like to have a character that has a little extra health and also has some stamina to dodge roll, etc...
Any help appreciated.

You count as an ally for healing. Secondary resto staff is nice for sorc leveling.

As far as stats for lvling i go 2:1 primary stat to health ratio. Putting every point into 1 stat is more of a group thing

There are some that likes to keep blue and purple stolen items. It's just a safeguard for those that doesn't want to sell them right away. in PC, there is addon that can bypass this message, but not on console.

ok, as long as I'm not losing anything by selling them. I carried one around for 2 weeks b/c I thought I had to keep it for achievement or something.

This actually saved me from fencing a primal motif book i meant to launder. There is no buyback option for fenced items.

I was just going to add when turning in quests you might want to consider equipping your resto staff to level it up. Your main weapon will level well just killing stuff.

Just forgot to mention blue and purple items can be recipes, therefore they have this as safeguard to prevent you from fencing them, as mighty oak already mentioned you can never buy them back if you fence it.

Yes, I've been careful to double-check that these are just blue treasures with no future use. Speaking of losing Motifs, still kicking myself from yesterday when I looted a Blue Motif I needed, and a Blue Recipe as well, and didn't immediately learn them...I was on a huge roll, and on the VERY NEXT theft the guard caught me. So I now know that you can't escape out of a building when fleeing a guard.

you can escape use a very long invisibilty potion and then crouch and hide out of sight, and have Retreating Maneuver on your bar ready to use it so you can get some distance, and remember, "Amat victoria curam". Victory loves Preparation
