Why cant named set pieces be converted to Imperial?

I believe it's always been this way. "Unique" pieces, meaning dropped set pieces like Storm Knight, Lord's etc cannot be converted to Imperial appearance. Does anyone know why? The items are bound upon conversion, so it's not like the ability could be used for profit.

I really like the appearance of Imperial Heavy Armor, and many times it's occurred to me that I dislike the dropped heavy sets and wished that I could converted it.

Could be a new skill for crafters. Change the style of a piece of armor for cheaper than crafting it.

I'm not opposed to that idea. But the issue I speak of is part of the Pre order Imperial edition purchase of the game that comes with the ability to convert any armor to Imperial skin. But it's severely limited. Most of the gear in the game that you would actually want to wear aside from crafted gear cannot be converted. So its fun to use while leveling up, but it's kinda useless once your character gets to endgame and you put them into named sets.

Makes a lot of sense to me personally. To me named gear should be apparent in some way. Converting it would take away from the named aspect. It's named for a reason to commemorate someone or something typically so it shouldn't be able to be converted or dyed imo. I do see your point though just offering how I see the game for others perspective :)

I'd love to convert my Warlock shoulders to Imperial to match the rest of my armor, the Warlock hood I like though.

Yeah because we need everyone wearing the same set with the same appearance and color......

That's fine, I still think it could be added, imperials would just get to do it for free on their personal bound items, would have a charge to do it to unbound items.

Eh, I really dislike "best" items being unmodifiable. Makes everyone with the high end gear look alike. I understand your point, but pre Transmog Warcraft was a very bland place imo.

I think that is part of the reason. There has to be a drawback to wearing those pieces, even if it is esthetic. Also, not being able to change them makes them recognizable.

I'm not sure I understand your reasoning. Why does there have to be a drawback to wearing set pieces? Min/maxers are going to wear certain sets regardless of the appearance anyways.

I was thinking we couldn't convert them due to some kind of programming issue. I hope the official reason isn't something like "There has to be a drawback to wearing this gear" :)

Would rather change my horrible bastion gear than commemorate xD

The additional problem is that if you mix and match then you might end up with pieces that have different color effects although you used the same dye. Even if they are of the same matetial, weight and improvement level.

Bastion and footman, for instance. Never did manage to find a combination of dyes that made them look the same. As result, I have to use a disguise.

Having the chance to comvert to imperial (which is an opt-in BTW) would circumvent this problem.
