As we all know, the group finder has issues.
Some of those problems are related to how the system works, other problems are related to the people using it.
A few weeks back, the group finder (on PS4) was completely not working, making groups of 3 or not grouping ever if you were aleready with 1 or 2 more persons in the group. Fortunately, this has been solved.
Another of the problems that people bring up is how the group finder doesn't teleport you directly to the dungeon in question. It is somewhat of an issue, but it's not, in my opinion, a huge problem when people know how to teleport themselves there.
The biggest problem related to the group finder is the people using it in the wrong manner. A lot of people on consoles are new to the world of MMORPGs, and have no concept of what a tank, a healer or a DPS (or DD, however you call it) is. Along with the fact that no class has a role attached to it, that all results in people queuing on the group finder as the wrong role.
The other day, I queue for a dungeon, and when the group gathers, no one is in heavy armor or has a shield. After doing the dungeon with 3 DPS and a healer (which is manageable), I queue again. In the next grou we end up with not only no tank, but no healer either... The guys queuing as tank is wearing full medium armor and a bow, and the guy queuing as ahealer is a templar (good enough, i guess) but he's not healing at all...
Since that day I've avoided the group finder as much as I could, trying to get tanks and healers among my friends, and using the group finder only to get DPSs...
Most of the problem with that comes from the no text chat, because when people are not using a headset, you can try to help them by telling them how to do it correctly, but they won't hear you. But the problem could be solved in another way. During low levels, maybe in the 2 small zones you start in (bleakrock isle / Bal Foyen in the case of ebonheart), there should be quests that explain how grouping in an mmorpg works.
I'm all for helping my guildmates by showing them, but the game is really not group-friendly in the 1-50 range, mostly because of the "soloable up to max level" mentality that WoW implemented a few years ago. Back in the Everquest / FFXI days, people learned to play as a group early, because they did not have a choice, if they didn't play in a group, they couldn't level up. I'm not saying that the possibility to solo is a bad thing, but if you go that way, you need a way to show your players how to use the functions properly, either in a quest, or in a tutorial box the first time they use the group finder.
Being able to play any role as any class is a wonderful thing and should be kept, but the players must know that when they queue in a dungeon, they must choose a role and stick to it.
Please, players, when you're a DPS, don't queue as a tank or a healer.
Cheers!
