CRAFTING: Are racial styles strictly cosmetic, or do they affect race bonuses?

Hello,
I'm wondering if crafting a piece of armor in a certain racial style is strictly cosmetic, or if it affects armor bonuses.
For example, does an Imperial wearing Imperial-styled armor have the same bonuses as an Imperial wearing Dunmer-styles armor?
