Puncturing Sweep - pvp Magicka melee dps?

I was wondering if this would be an okay build for pvp/pve from higher rank individuals on this game.

the main goal/thought was to be a templar and use a gap closer (from spear line?) and then spam puncturing sweeps while weaving in attacks and putting the vampire bane dot for dmg.

i was thinking this might be fun because this gives you the ability in pvp to sit back and heal people but if you wanted to join the fray during a push or small scale battles you have a gap closer and spammable dps skill

2nd bar would be restro with healing stuff on it to support peeps. I thought this might work because the dmg of puncturing sweeps and the jesus beem and heals are all based on pumping max magicka. but my question is how surviavable is it.

i imagine to play healer and get most dmg from these skills you have to go light armor. can a light armor + melee spell get destroyed in pvp/pve. im not expecting to stay alive with the small 40% life heal from the skill.

would using heavy armor be better? also what kind of weapon should a light armor melee range magicka user be using? staff for range? or dual for increase spell dmg?

anyone play a templar melee magicka class?

I suggest searching for "Templar" in the forum, theres plenty of threads/comments about various Magicka Templar builds. To answer it short, light armor templar is perfectly viable in both melee/range dps and heals in PvP. Its all up to what you want to do and your ability/skills to do so.

would you be willing to explain your melee templar build? is it magicka or stamina based? can it off heal with magicka (if magicka?)

@wizardpsx I play a Templar Healer resto/2h in mostly light armor mixed with some heavy. Puncturing Sweep is virtually the only DPS skill on my bar right now, and honestly it's really the only one I need for leveling. I can dedicate my other spots on my bar to leveling other abilities while questing. Puncturing Sweep is amazing; it affects multiple enemies, stuns, and heals you. I can solo world/dungeon bosses just by spamming it.

Templar Healer builds are very viable and excellent for survivability. Templar magicka DPSs are a bit rarer than their stamina counterparts and it's a bit more difficult to master but entirely possible. I absolutely love 2h as my melee weapon, even though I don't have any points invested in stamina. It wrecks things. Critical Charge/Rush is a good gap-closer, and Rally (Momentum morph) is a nice self-heal. DW is also a good choice for the AoE (Steel Tornado) and spell damage.

As a helpful tip, you can level two (or even more) weapon skill trees at the same time. Buy and assign a weapon skill from your chosen secondary weapon tree on your primary ability bar. That skill will be useless to you as you will have a different weapon equipped, but every time you earn XP from questing/killing stuff, it will level both your equipped weapon and your secondary weapon trees simultaneously. Buying passive from both trees also helps. I've been doing this to level up my restoration staff (which I'll want for group dungeons and PvP) while using 2h as my equipped weapon for solo questing, which has saved me a lot of time and grinding. I've found that as a Templar, I can actually dedicate most of my bar to leveling my abilities up; so long as I have Puncturing Sweep and Breath of Life on my bar, I can do without much else.

Hope you find this insightful :)
