I am new and yes I tried looking for this answer.
I want a friend to purchase the game and be able to quest with me. What steps to I need to take to make sure we can do this....same server (US)...same race etc....I just don't want him to spend money if this is isn't possible.

Same System (Console or PC), Same Server (NA or EU) and same Alliance (DC, AD, EP).

Good question. I can never find anybody unless we agree to meet in a certain place at a certain time, and that only works if we both log on at exactly the same time and have the same running speed.

There are several ways to do this. Most basic way is to make sure you pick a race within the same alliance unless you have the Explorer's Pack, where you can choose alliance regardless of race.

Just make sure you are in the same alliance - Daggerfall Covenant, Aldmeri Dominion or Ebonheart Pact.

True, but HOW do you find someone? I want to get my partner a copy of TESO so we can play as a team, but I have no idea how to actually find anyone.

I can never find my existing friends in order to adventure with them and we belong to the same alliance! In the month I've had the game, I think we've run across each other a total of twice. Even with call-out, you still have to find each other.

On PC it is possible to right-click an online player and travel directly to them.
If grouped with them, there is often a pop-up that offers to send me directly to the map.

Not sure if Console has this feature.

You tell them to meet you some place... On pc you can get into a group then summon to each other, I'm sure a feature is like that on console.

If you group up you may get a message stating that "insert gamer tag" is in a different version of whatever zone you are in and it will ask if you would like to join them. I have at times been grouped up running around questing and one of my group mates will disappear for a bit.

I see posts like this and feel so bad for console players. It's like you guys are forced to play the game with 1 arm tied behind your back with all the missing features. 0_o

I would recommend starting a voice party chat on the console (if you have it available. I know PS4 does), group up and then look for each other on the map. The leader will have a crown, the members will have a downward facing arrow.

I've tried that, but they're so difficult to find. Isn't it easier to make a certain location you hub and all head there? I had one friend I grouped with that was all the way on the other end of Auridon and then we missed each other trying to find each other. We wasted over an hour that way.

Find a specific building in a specific town and meet there. Every time I meet someone in game, I always just go to Daggerfall and stand in front of the blacksmith. Can't miss me.

Hiya @Bmox! First off... there's nothing to apologize for, to have asked this stuff :)! Now, for your answers... you can see your character's alliance both on the character select screen, and in-game on the character sheet window (the default for the PC is the "C" key on the keyboard, and will show the alliance's symbol near the top).

For the second... yes, you can create a new character and align him to a different alliance. The characters on your account will all share the same bank space, and champion ranks (but have their own champion points to spend individually). Otherwise, they play separately. An upcoming patch may prohibit you from assigning them to the same Alliance War campaign, so be mindful of that, but as a practical matter, the system's very friendly to it. If your main concern is simply changing your main alliance, there's nothing stopping you at all from it to play with your friends :).

Exploits suck. Don't blame just the game, blame the players abusing them!

-In-game mains abound with "Nerf" in their name. As I am asked occasionally, I do not play on anything but the PC NA Megaserver at this time.

If you chose Aldmeri Dominion as you, faction your friend starts playing ESO and makes a character in a different alliance you can't transfer factions to play together. One of you will need to create a new character in the other's faction to play together. Your characters don't all have to be the same alliance they can be spread out over all three alliances.

If you have the Adventures Pack, as I believe they're calling it now, you can play any race in any alliance but each of your characters is locked into the alliance you initially chose for them. So lets say I make an Orc in the Aldmeri Dominion, she'll never be able to transfer to the Daggerfall Covenant the Orc "home" faction or the Ebonheart Pact.

If you don't have the Adventure pack you can only create a character from the races that are part of each alliance:

    Aldmeri Dominion:
    Altmer (High Elf)
    Bosmer (Wood Elf)
    Khajiit

    Ebonheart Pact:
    Argonian
    Dunmer (Dark Elf)
    Nord

    Daggerfall Covenant:
    Breton
    Orc
    Redguard
