Revive on spot without a soulgem under level 6?

I'm new to Elder Scrolls in general and I was wondering because I have died a few times I'm currently level 5. But up till level 6 can you revive on spot? I died a few times last night trying to take on something more powerful and everytime I did I was able to respawn without a soul gem. Is this only till level 6? I had no soul gems in my inventory but still can revive on spot. I think I remember seeing a message about that in the training mission. Just verifying.

There is a Passive in the Soul line that lets you Ressurect without a Soul Gem once an hour or two. The interval goes down as you rank the passive. Maybe you unlocked that. BTW, you level the Soul skill line by doing the Main Quest so that is how you get the other passives and skills to unlock.

You really do want to get some soul gems, Mystics sell them, look for them near where the Enchanters have a shop. Then go beat up some Mudcrabs or wolves using the soul trap spell to fill them.

Once you unlock the passive that fills a gem on a normal attack, then you can pretty much stop using Soul Trap. Unless you like the damage it does.

Yes, resurrection on the spot is free (i.e. you do not need a soulgem at all) below level 6

I never noticed this before. I have an L4 mule that I need to test this on. I do remember my first character dieing repeatedly (because I skipped the starter islands) but I don't remember where they rezz'd.
