No, but the game required a subscription, so access to the game (including Craglorn) cost money.

You don't have to guess, we know that DLCs like the Imperial City will cost money.

I'm thinking Imperial City will cost around 20K - 25K crowns.

I doubt they would charge for the Imperial City, it seems strange as I don't consider it an added zone, but more an implementation to a zone that already exists. Orsinium, Clockwork City, Realm of Mephala, etc. all are expansions though, which in my mind are worthy of an "entry fee" if you will. When I think of TES I think Cyrodiil and the Imperial City, having that barred from people who aren't willing to pay seems very weird, so I hope it's not the case.

DLC will be free if you subscribe, just like Craglorn was free because we were all subscribing then.

However, while we still have Craggles, with Tamriel Unlimited if you stop subscribing then you lose access to DLC.

My advice would be subscribe for a month when DLC comes out - gets you free access to the DLC and some free crowns. Try out the DLC and if you want it buy it (with your free crowns). Then unsubscribe until the next DLC comes out :)

The Imperial City is already locked out of the rest of Cyrodiil, it's very easy to make it a paid DLC. The problem is of a different nature.
    1) Some PvPers fighting for access and capturing keeps will be excluded from entering the city. While the rest of their group moves in, they will be left behind. This creates a very visible paywall ZOS originally wanted to avoid.
    2) Some people will be barred from accessing content they paid for because their alliance is the underdog in their campaign and can't reliably hold enough keeps.

IMO the city should be free, but I'm not holding my breath.

Imperial City should be a free content update.

    1. This is old, delayed, content that, by all rights, should have been delivered prior to Tamriel Unlimited.
    2. Everything in Cyrodiil should be base game to prevent problems with paywalls that block access.

REALLY? And a snow horse cost 30K? That clearly makes sense.

Given that the Imperial City is a PvP zone expansion, I hope it costs something, as I'm much more PvE than PvP. I'm saying I think both ESO players (PvP and PvE) should suport the game via DLCs.

No way, it was obviously planned that people without IC can fight outside it and those with IC inside it.

As far I know, ESO still leans forward sub, monthly sub gives you access to all content, also 1500 crown and other stuff.

Other idea might be to give it all for free but give 50 euros worth of boosters for subbers, it just might work. I personally think players value boosters alot.

That translates into $200 - $250 real money. No it wont cost that much

Crowns value is roughly 100 for $1

Thats a much more realistic price. Still a bit high but again, more realistic

Look at the pricing structure of the crown store so far.....

You are considering that 2-2.5k crowns is expensive....

At the moment you can pay more than this for a single horse!!!

So is a whole expansion & all the related content / work gone into it, going to be cheaper than a single horse?

I hope it is... but going by the current trend on pricing items I'd be surprised if its set at this value.

This is what I'm "hoping." I think it wouldn't be so wise to try to charge for an expansion so fast after just going Buy To Play. Heck, GW2 didn't charge for expansion until recently, and it was a pretty massive one from what I understand. I guess we'll find out soon enough...

What about those of us that supported the game from launch with subs, and now have nothing to show for it except a cash store and a console launch?

I don't "support", it's not a charity. I buy a product or a service if I think it's good value for money. I really won't mind at all if the Imperial City and all future DLC aren't free, but I have to admit ZOS misled us for months when they promised a lot of new content, even said it's practically finished, just to keep us paying throughout the second half of 2014 when they already knew the game was going B2P. And now they'll be selling this promised content in the crown store.

Zenimax promised "every month new content" at launch (oh and some other promises like "preorder boni" never to rebuy later)

... the only thing they delivered was a pre setup zone (even in 2 steps), some trials and revamped "veteran dungeons"
... oh i forgot the coloring, the "justice system", the ... i stop now before i get angry

get used to paying and be satisfied with "what you get" ... that the way the cookie crumbles here

you serious right now? Do people really want everything free after they pretty much make the game free aside from one time purchase..........

if they made the dlc cost a CRAP TON then it would make people want to subscribe to the 15 dollars a month. Which is whats going to happen lol

It would effectively make the game subscription-based again. What would be the point of changing the business model then?

But that is the very point of paywalls, to create problems by preventing access until one gives up and pays.

So that people have the option of playing the game without the subscription.

I highly doubt this. The reason why it went Buy To Play in the first place was because the sub was not working out for them. If they charge a crazy amount for the expansions (assuming that they are charging) but make it free for subs, they will be in the same situation. This isn't like Free to Play, people paid 60 dollars for a game that probably didn't deserve that amount (again, it went buy to play), so anything that Zenimax does at this point right now will determine just how much of a player base they will have.

I'm not even sure if the Console Player base will retain even a quarter of what this game had at console launch after everyone reaches Veteran level and realize the real grind. So I would assume that Zenimax will be keeping stuff like this into consideration before making decisions that could push even more people away in the future...then again, there have been a lot of crazy decisions from them that I'm still surprise about, so we'll see, I suppose.
