As a crafter in every MMO I've ever played, I thoroughly enjoy making my own gear. I recently recieved my certyification in blacksmithing, tailoring, and woordworking. Currently in Daggerfall (I'm in DC), are there any "hotspots" to get the crafting materials needed to start producing my own gear? Thanks

All the Materials are Zone leveled.

Materials by zone are reasonably abundant in every zone. Metals are predominant along mountain areas and along coastlines. Wood among trees and driftwood along coasts. Cloth throughout the interior but can also appear anywhere.

If you want to quickly map out the current nodes try turning off grass in video settings and they will more easily seen (on bare areas they are all that is left). You can also add passive skill points that make them glow and appear sooner in the distance. You can also harvest at night and they will really stand out.

If you are on PC you can get Harvest Map addon which will annotate every material node you collect and it can also be pre-populated with data collected by other players (spoilers of course) and shared.

Once you have them mapped you can see where they tend to line up together and you can run a continuous route through them as you harvest them and they respawn at the start of your route (approx 5-6 minutes if no one else is running that same route)

If you are a console player, you might find mat spawns a bit sparse at the moment. There is so much demand from all the players at the same levels that competition for spawns is high. Try looking in out of the way places. Follow the edges of the zone map off the beaten paths. I also find lots of chests this way as a bonus!

Also in line with @Tarukmockto ideas above, you can travel to higher zones to avoid the new-player masses and harvest just avoiding enemy mobs.

There is usually some overlap between mat levels at the edges between each zone.

Go back to Stros Mkai. You will not believe, now that you have a little more experience, how many crafting materials are laying at your feet. There are some real good runs in the desert/mountains.

Agreed. Shortly after launch I ran around the start islands (on PS4) and was like "what? Why are people complaining there are no nodes??" There were tons of people around, but a trained eye is just better.
