Nightblade build help!

justinamelie
Hey guys, new to ESO, but a veteran of the ES series.
I created a wood elf Nightblade character and have a style I'd like him to adhere to and look to, and need some help with how to distribute skill points.

I'm lvl 12 / haven't been to Cyrodil yet (as I feel like I'm extremely weak for a lvl 12)

I would like my guy to be a primary dual wield w/ daggers and have a bow as a secondary (no weapon swap yet, so I have to stick to one at a time)
Also, would like my armor to look like the nightblade on the cover of the game (and on the left side of this forum) yet haven't found ANY night-blade looking armor at all so far in Auridon...

What is a good use of skill points to distribute AND what are skills I should be purchasing (I have a few from my Assasin's skill line and wood elf skill line / along with dual wield and bow). I basically want to be a range'd / stealth attacker with the bow then run in and make quick work with the dual wield daggers.

Would love ANY help or insight because I can't help but feel like I'm "playing the game wrong" haha.

    I feel the same brother

I'm a nightblade too, I've made some terrible choices with my character so far lol

I started off with two handed weapons, deposited quite a few skill points in to abilities and now I have changed to sword and shield. I feel like starting over but at lvl 14 I may as well keep him, plus he seems to be pretty strong at the moment.

I would definitely recommend the siphoning skills, they come extremely handy

you will be fine with nb later on, but is not the easyest class to start with. i play all class and i still have big difficult with nb, may be becouse is just not my kind.

i suggest if you feel frustated at the begin, to start every class in the tutorial prison, just to see how you feel, then, when you have a better idea keep your class to veteran level.

i also suggest you to start with the sorc and or googling on youtube for best class tutorials.

i spent hours in there, before getting into the game.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Post #3 talked about Sorcerers, your post #4 in response seemed to be asking for Sorcerer advice based on Post #3. I can only follow the conversations that are presented to me. o:)

    Go all stamina.

Slot surprise attack, dark cloak, steel tornado, ambush, killers blade.

Slot reapers' mark and double take on the bow bar with snipe and poison arrow, lots of stuff works for last skill depending on situation.

I like soul tether a lot as it levels your siphoning and gives you those passives, lots of good choices for the other ultimate.

Stack weapon damage and stamina regen on gear, use stamina and stamina cost glyphs and regen drinks.

Roll a lot, open from stealth, ambush-tether-tornado into groups.

I actually prefer DW/2H, might change when I get vigor.

    Hey, @justinamelie,

Night Blades seem to struggle at the lower levels, but around late 30s and into the 40s they become much better.

I died more with my Night Blade at lower levels than any other class that I have leveled. They are the most complex class to learn to play. ( just my opinion) .

But, once you get the hang of them.... Wow! they are Fun!

It's definitely looking that way. I feel like I'm terribly underpowered and can't find any "cool" armor that fits my playstyle (haha). All of the active effects are definitely overwhelming too...ugh, well, just gotta keep at it haha

I have some tips for you but right now im assuning you are at level 18+ going 20 yeah? So, here goes:

When I was leveling my nb, I took the stamina route. This was Pre 1.6, which meant the build was gimped due to soft caps and with class skills all scaling via magicka. It meant that going magicka was the way to go and hybrid as I am, I couldnt deal enough damage with the bow. I exclusively used bow till I was 20, which then I added 2handers. I see that you are using dual wield so lets work with that yeah. Post 1.6, going either stamina and weapon damage or magicka with spell damage are the way to go now, with some class skills that scale through stamina.

I will recommend a 1:2:3 ratio while leveling for any class. 3 being your main damage resource and 2 being your health. This would mean you would have a 1 magicka to 2 health to 3 stamina. As you level, make sure you are leveling your main damage resource first, then health then magicka. For eg

Lvl 1 - 1 stam point added to attributes
    Lvl 2 - 1 stam
    Lvl 3 - 1 stam
    Lvl 4 - 1 health
    Lvl 5 - 1 health
    Lvl 6 - 1 magicka
    Repeat cycle.

I find that having proper management of your attributes will help much, esp when you do not seem to have access to enchantments and food buffs, be it through crafting or otherwise.

Now onwards to the build. I am assuming that you would have leveled all skill lines related to your class and weapons. As a nightblade, you need a few things; cloak, assassin blade, strife. These are the starter class skill lines which will help on the leveling. Thus by 20, you should have at least two to three tiers of class skills available. If you had searched for skyshards and finished the zone, you should be able to gather about 30+ skillpoints, allowing for some funky builds.

    Here are some combos:
Ambush - shadowy disguise - surprise attack
Shadowy Disguise - charged bow attack from crouched position - poison arrow
    Ambush - whirlwind - killer's blade
Poison arrow - Cripple - scatter shot
Shadowy Disguise - surprise attack - flurry

You'd notice that I dont Morph my weapon skill lines, this is because since we are making a stamina build and weapon skills do scale from stamina, its much more economical for you to Morph the class skill to make it either stamina based or useful for you on the long run. You will always gain more skillpoints and that will help with your weapon skill lines.

As for ultimates, all three have a place for different situations and gameplay. If you sneak alot, having soul tether or incapacitating strike will help alot. If you go all out ballsy, then soul harvest and veil of blades will help your survivability.

Dont ever neglect passives, most starter players keep focusing on the skills but forgot the basic component of the build itself the passives. Even if you just grabbed the first two passives from each class skill lines it will help tremendously with your build and survivability. If you are low on skillpoints, take refreshing shadows and executioner. If poss, take Shadow barrier and catalyst. Catalyst is such an underrated passive, since there is an abundance of potions throughout uour levelling time, you can keep on gaining ultimate at a faster rate. I usually have magicka potions ready because I run out of magicka fast and having that ultimate ( esp soul harvest, the ultimate generation is amazingly good) up at almost every fight means not much downtime.

For armor, go 5 medium, 1 light and 1 heavy. I like the look of breton light armor headpiece. Hoods always have a special place in my heart. Breton medium armor has this leather witch hunter look, while argonian medium looks awesome if you are going the skirmisher / berserker route. I wont suggest the rare or imperial look since not everyone has that motif. I dont bother with crafting sets as for 1-50, you level up too fast for you to keep up the sets with your level.

For farming mats, grab every node you can and expand your bank space to accommodate the mats. Since all your chars have access to the bank, crafting is a breeze. Have one or two characters that are 'mules', carrying perhaps your extra motifs, cool looking weapons and such.

After this long post I hope I helped abit and hope to see you ingame soon! My Ingame id is RavenSworn and I will be glad to help you in any way. Cheers!

When i started playing 2 days after Ps4 launch i made a Khajiit Nightblade. My first 5 or so ability points went into health before i started putting points into stamina. Remember you can always respec your points when you reach lvl 50 or so. But for leveling purposes i chose heavy health. Used max stamina enchants and went DW/Bow.

As for abilitys my very first one was Strife followed by Assassins blade then teleport strike. Then Shadow cloak and Veiled Strike. Morph the abilitys to the stamina version.

By doing this i have been able to solo my way to my current level of 47. I can solo world bosses, public dungeons (and the group events), Dolmens and Delvs. With full medium armor, all the health and self-healing i can do it has made leveling a breeze. Again, this is how i started the game so i have nothing to compare it to. Hope this helps!

the reason i suggest you the mage is becouse has the strongest skill in game at low level and make sorc the candidate to learn the mechanics of the game.

typical 1 bar low level mage
    - crystal shard > crystal fragment
    - mage fury > endless fury
    - encase > shattering prison
    - unstable familar give you a great help in low level
    - restoration staff: you need it with a sorc at low level

with those skills in your bar you can soloing till veteran level without any problem

the tutorial link i posted is where i learn by.

Cyrodil, there are 2 easy Skyshards for each faction and there's early easy leveling just from scouting missions which plays into a stealth Night Blade's skillset.

Thanks for the indepth reply. I'm actually only a level 13 (I don't really play that many hours per day) and I feel like I was at a stand-still for a second there because I'd do lvl 12 quests and just get wrecked while using the bow.

Since I'm the wood elf, I definitely have skill points there for increased bow xp / etc..but it still feels extremely underpowered.

Also, where do I find nightblade-related drops?! (Such as daggers)?
I feel like every quest is "here's a greatsword. here's a staff. here's some heavy armor."
