Back at launch, the maximum players in a campaign at a time was 1800, or 600 per alliance. Is this still the case, or was it reduced/increased since April 2014?
A while back on Chillrend EU AD wouldn´t go above medium pop, but as soon as 2 guilds would start their raids up with arround 20 - 24 players in them the population bar jumped tp locked instabtly. I remember just counting people from organised groups and guilds groups that i know and id say 150 players per faction, maximum.
i would guess 100-125 per faction myself. 150 would be max. i mean the game servers completely die even with a total of ~100 players fighting for a keep (between 3 factions). As bad as it is that some players were grinding CP in the zone, without them the lag would have been soooooooooo much worse.

I would have to say 150 is max if I took a guess, seen guilds run 2-3 full raids ins servers that otherwise seemed pretty empty and that was pop locked. This being said, pretty sad to see next to no more than 2 bars per faction in the most populated servers across oceanic times these days. way too few people playing any more
Even though the battles of 1st ESO era were laggy as *** (although no more than last weekend battles at Azura NA), I miss the scale of those battles. I loved seeing 20 vs 20 siege plus 80+ on each side on almost every keep, and I will never forget the day when I was rank 5 in early days on my below vet character on DC, when Angry Joe's rally call brought like full cap of ADs pushing on one side and almost full cap of EP pushing on other side and each and every keep was a hard fought battle, I remember one siege taking like 4-5h of the actual siege time.
now I see pop lock, and you can hardly notice where the people are, it is usually some 3-4 organized groups of 20-30 people and some solo players running here and there, but it sometimes feels empty even on full cap when you are defending a keep in 6 men vs 15-20 of the enemy and you barely see anything else on the map.
Dont forget also, it used to SEEM like alot more people in those days because of forward camps, people could get back almost infinitely, and fights became a matter of who could either lock down camps faster or which faction lacked the AP/detication to put one down.
Fights used to be hours long because of these and you would be able to get hundreds of kills at just one keep, and on top of this D ticks for 30+k
In some ways I miss them for this reason, but obviously there are lag issues (not like its any better these days) and also strategy wise its better now also.
