To number 1... uh...lol no. You really do not understand Elder Scrolls do you?
Uh... how was this at all helpful or constructive to the conversation.
It mocks his spread of bull s. info.
Well first off, mocking on the forums isn't allowed. Secondly, can we get someone in here to mock your spread of bull s. info?
I'd argue that all instances of mage archetypes have some form of "oh sh**" spells to keep melee range at bay. Be it teleporting away, glueing them to the ground, or anything really. Yes, dragon knights have more spells for close up. But, I think that would help to maintain a distanced playstyle more than you realize.
@notimetocare. . . please. . . stop. . .
I have no idea what you are on about.
My perception of mage was a result of all mages I have ever played. So what category would exclude anything I have said thus far?
Mages sling spells. End of story.

Also mr. @notimetocare you may not be aware of this, but people are allowed to have different opinions. You've made it obvious that you are doing nothing more than being a troll. If you want some attention, I'll play the game with you. Just stop trying to act like a hard a** on the forums. It's not even like the concept of these classes being used as mages is specific to this person. There a handful of guides for builds exactly like this.
So, as @NotSo said... Please just stop.
Join me on ps4. I'll pay attention to you if that's what you need. (not in a creepy way either cause I ain't into that)
Sorry had to edit. The forum didn't censor the a word.

Different opinions? Sure. Does not make them right. It was claimed destruction staff is only destruction spells. It is simply not the case. Additionally, mage encompasses a person who uses and studies magic (i.e. most magic users).
Also, I would never play an ES or MMO on consoles. Too much missed.

Getting back to why this conversation is important: You are ALL wrong.
SedoUmbra, your head is stuck in Skyrim. This is not Skyrim. This is what happens when you take everything good about Skyrim and combine it with everything good about MMORPGs. That's the part you are missing. This is not Skyrim by any means, its an MMORPG and thus will behave very differently. Luckily for you though, the builds in this game can be incredibly different from one another and still work, unlike in other games when this fact in this game is not even close to being fact in those instances. For example, I run a Nightblade Healer. Its incredibly odd to most, but I have found a way to make it work.
If you want to make your fire mage as a Templar, Dragonknight, Nightblade, or Sorcerer, go for it. Just pick skills that will compliment each other nicely and do not be afraid to experiment.
As for everyone else on here, stop trolling or baiting the trolls. Also, if you had approached Sedo with this explanation sooner, you would not have wasted hours of your time and approximately 15 minutes of mine. Instead, you probably would have only wasted about 10 minutes of your own time.
-Sincerely, the guy who will whack you through your computer screen if you keep bickering like you are five years old.
P.S. I do not mean to insult any of you, but you are acting like five year old children bickering. I work in fast food and I see five year olds on a daily basis, and this is exactly what they do, rattling on about things that either A. don't matter or B. don't make sense. This conversation, at this point, is probably a mix of both.

Gotta do something while I eat and RP.

Sorry I'm out, going wayyyyyy off topic and quotes are smothering the page.
Hope you figure out a propper mage build to enjoy.
Ok, this is getting ridiculous.
I can't wait for spellcrafting. I sort of agree a bit about wishing other classes had more fire/ice. I really like the classic mage, blowing stuff up from afar. Shadow/blood mage sounded super cool to me, so I keep trying to make my nightblade into that, but the only spell I like is strife/funnel life/swallow soul and cripple and thats kinda it. Though they look cool, I'm not a huge fan of all the nightblade spells being all close ranged. It also looks weird using the shadow magic then switching to dumb looking spells like force shock/crushing shock. -_-
Sorcerer has been the closest thing to what I want and it looks pretty fluid, but I hate lightning. I would much rather have a full ice focused spell line.
I am leveling my sorc right now anyway and waiting for the time when I can make my own spells.

The op had already posted a while back that he made a decision. So everything after this (yes including my posts) are irrelevant.

We're all irrelephant. Which by the way Irrelephants should be in the guild store. XD
(And I hope you intentionally mispelled that, because I'm not trying to mock you, i thought it was funny.)
Dragon Knights fight close range, they bring enemies towards them or put themselves towards the enemy. They get into the thick of things and then use some ability or another to keep them alive from some damage resist. Mages deal high damage from a distance and would generally get beaten in melee combat if it was a fair fight -i.e both of similar skill level and XP level- so technically a Dragon Knight can not be a mage.

This one agrees on this statement, DK's magic is based on earth-fire qualities, shields, autoheal and some AoE's... not an "ideal" magicka-based DPS but a very efficient Tank
