[SUGGESTION] Item upgrades

With the announcement of adding two additional veteran ranks there's been a lot of community feedback.

The responses vary and I'd like to suggest a crafting improvement that would at least make the situation a bit better for some of the nay-sayers.

One of the leading arguments is the fact that veteran ranks has been previously discussed to be removed by the representatives yet they are adding two more, meaning people get upset for not understanding the reason for the increment.

A problem that comes to mind is the fact that a lot of the items will no longer be considered as highest level, which is a common thing in these types of games whenever a expansion releases, however I for one was hoping that the character progression was solely based on Champion Points and not Veteran Ranks after the 1.6 update.

What I suggest is quite simple:
- A feature that allows crafters to upgrade existing items using materials

This could be implemented in different ways, for instance:
- Only allow craftable items to be upgraded
- Allow all items to be upgraded
- ...

This would unfortunately leave out jewelry since we have no profession for creating these in the first place.

Having such a feature would also allow more variation when it comes to existing sets that don't exist in higher veteran ranks, plus it would mean that we don't have to farm the exact same items again with the exact same traits e.g Master Weapons.

This feature wouldn't become obsolete with the removal of veteran ranks either since you'd still be able to upgrade a level 10 sword into level 11 for instance.

The question is:
Would you like to see a feature which allows you to upgrade existing items level status?

How would we restrict how items are upgraded? Do we put a 1-2x upgrade limit? Should there be another skill for upgrading items?

+ the ability for crafters to change apperances of items, like for dropped sets especially, this would only work with similar items (ex like heavy helm with heavy helm)
so in the crafter window, add another tab, it has 3 slots
1 slot for the item with the stats u want
1 slot for the item with the look u want
1 slot for a conversion/transmutation stone thingie, this could be rare, and this valuable

the higher lvl items, the higher u have to have the craft line lvl'd
the more upgraded (white-green-....-yellow) the rarer the conversion stone u need

may not matter to everyone, but play the way u wan also looks the way u want with the sets u wanne use, not everybody wants to run around in breton skirts

That's up for discussion, my first thought was that it could be bound to only be applicable on items which the crafter has crafted himself, meaning the item has the "crafted by {id}" mark.

Another restriction could be to make it more wide: only applicable on craftable items.

True, it could, depending on the implementation.

Regardless people will still buy materials in order to upgrade/craft new sets, so I don't think it would have a huge effect on the economy.

I like the idea of being able to upgrade items. Heck, they could even make that an unlockable skill in each skill line.

This was my idea yesterday that I posted on one of the threads. I would love this to happen because there is some awesome armor you find at lower levels that cannot be found between levels 30-V10 or V12-14. It would be awesome to be able to use materials to raise that armor's level using the same number of mats it would take to create new armor with.

It would also encourage players to level the crafting skills.
Far too many characters to list any more.

I'm tentatively saying no, unless it were done very, very carefully. This is a very slippery slope. It may not seem like a big deal with only 2 levels being added but what about down the line? Should the current end game gear always be the best? At some point in time you have to accept you'll need to put more work into acquiring gear, that's just how non-stagnant mmos work.

If this would be limited to only craftable items, would you still see it as an issue?

Item upgrade ability would be a good perk to give to master crafters. It should be limited at least initially to upgrading crafted items only so working toward rare loot drops for high level items does not become obsolete. Why would people work to get a VR16 item drop if they can upgrade a cheap guild store level 26 version of the item?
