Breath of Life is NOT an instant spell!

It actually has a cast time that's quite long taking into account that you have to wait for the cast animation to complete before it takes effect. It's very unresponsive for an "INSTANT" spell.

Templar as a whole is a horribly designed class.. which is weird because the other classes are all very well designed, makes you wonder who dropped the ball on Templars.

Breath of Life is arguably the best heal in the game even if it has a tiny cast time (which can be negated quite easily with an animation cancel). You should not be waiting for your Damage Dealer to be on the verge of death at 21 HP to start looking where you may have slotted BoL on your off-bar. Healing is about anticipating and reacting quickly.

Yes they acknowledged this as a bug and said they were looking into fixing it. A month or so later they changed their minds and said it was intended. That's ZOS for you!

Most skills will cancel the animation of light/heavy attacks.

Block/Dodge will cancel the animation of most skills.

By doing a light attack->skill-> block you can animation cancel a quick string of attacks in a much shorter period of time than just skill->skill->skill.

Also, according to ESO live they are speeding up the animation for BoL.

edit: @solipsist I just realized I meant to say "Bash", not block. Block will work too, but Bash does damage for some extra DPS.

I am somewhat in the same boat as the TO and I actually tried animation cancelling as used from other classes/skills too. The result is unsatisfying to say at least.

To be honest in usual PvE content (veteran, gold, silver, even City of Ash) you rarely need that heal anyways. Rapid Regeneration + Healing Springs just do the job fine. The long animation time bothered me the first time while doing DSA veteran.

For the guy who told some stuff about anticipating...it's an instant heal and therefore used as reactive ("oh *** !") heal in situations where a player gets - almost - oneshotted. Besides the fact, that those situations are usually caused (not always of course) by a fault of the player itself, you do not need this type of heal for anticipated healing at all, you have tons of HoTs for that kind of job.

Combat Prayer is instant too...and this heal is truly instant, so the difference in execution time between CP and BoL is a design flaw in my opinion.

Sometimes the prey turns and nips us... it's a small thing.

So let the snow flakes and unicorns dance alone until they melt or vanish from existence, we will finish up with those smart enough to stay in the glowing circle of love.
