VR's would not matter as much if gear improvements were smaller

What I mean is that a VR14 with VR14 Purple gear is at least 30-40% better than the VR1 with green gear. If the gear improvement/level was brought down, people would not feel the need to level up all the way. It wouldn't instantly make the V14 gear people have invested a years worth of time instantly sub-par compared to a V16 set. The Min/Maxers would have a new goal, and casuals would have a choice, grind or compete with a bit of a handicap.

This thresh-hold is subjective, I know. I think we are too far to the side of 'Levels = Power' right now though. Let the pendulum swing the other way a little and lets see what happens? Iteration is key, and I think this is one of the Core reasons why VR ranks are so disliked by the people who don't like them. It feels mandatory to level, and grind, due to the lack of power compared to settling at a lower VR.

Higher level players have higher level gear and are more powerful than lower level players with lower level gear. What's the problem?

Let me guess, you're one of those who want VR1's to be on equal footing with VR14's?

Ok...this means? Comparing a v1 to a v14 is a stupid comparison. Compare v12 to v14 and noticed that difference it tiny. It is mandatory, like any other game leveling to MAX will be mandatory. This is one of the first games I have seen that caters so much to non fully maxxed players. See scaling content for vet dungeons.

Its a compromise on one of the core reasons why I feel VRs "Are Mandatory". Not that I care. I like to level my characters. I didn't invest in the best gear, I get by with my cheap stuff and I horde money.

But, this is a SOLUTION. Maybe not the best. Maybe not the most popular. Its how progress is made though.

Especially with large games with may variables. Iterate. Iterate on what? Core problems. Why do people hate VR's? 1)They feel mandatory... 2)they take a long time to earn.. 3)they are grindy...

    Solutions:
1)Make them feel less mandatory via my OP.
2)lower the xp need per level (or get rid of them, both SOLUTIONS)
3)More content / More bonuses to pvp / better quest rewards & POI completion awards...

The whole point of this thread was to discuss a position that hasn't been discussed very much, at least from what I have seen. 2&3 of the above have been covered.

If there is no purpose to advancement then why continue playing?

They need a way to keep people playing. When there is no more leveling, then the only advancement comes from better gear.

If the leveling system flattens out then casual players will still be where they are because they will not want to run the difficult/time consuming content. There will just be more blacklisting and LFMs with no bads. That is an eventuality anyways as more people reach the v14 line.

IMO, I have never had a problem making the required experience to level through vet levels via silver/gold and have not needed to grind. I suspect people are too busy being envious of others instead of enjoying the journey. That only leads to an unfulfilled life.

I have seen numerous people hide behind me during my travels and land a single hit on the boss or hiding to the side while I solo a dolmen only to rush to hit the final pinion to get credit. So that may be a case of you get what you put in.
Due to a typo in the system, the area was accosted by the Daedric Prince Moar Lag Brawls.

    1. Dumb idea, its an RPG. Levels matter, effort matters.
    2. Been discussed to death, you bring nothing new. Getting rid of them is not a solution, I did not see what they said about it, but I have known for ages they cant just ditch the system.
    3. Sure, its planned, they just have to do it.

From reading these forums I don't think people are mad at vet ranks. I believe people are mad at lack of new and/or interesting content past level 50. The vet ranks just highlight the lack of content. Especially when people feel they need to grind because there is not enough content. Since many people seem to say that there is enough content to get to vet 14, I have to imagine the existing contents just isn't that interesting to many. I don't mind questing and had intended to make an alt to experience the other factions anyway so the vet ranks are a convenience for me(I'm vet 1 now). I can understand how 10 months of no new or interesting content would make people upset though.

If they implement new content along with the changes to vet ranks (increase in xp gain, total xp reduction, 2 new levels, tons of gear improvements) things would be fine. If they then somehow managed to make the content between vet 1 and vet 10 more attractive then the majority would be content with the situation. After all there is no difference between vet 16 and level 65.

Battle leveling for pve content defeats the idea of progression. Remove CP

I just wish they would implement a way to allow us to raise the level of dropped gear so we can keep it. Even if we have to use the same number of mats we would use making new gear. There have been a few dropped sets that I have really liked, but they are not available at V14 level or anywhere in between L30-V10 and V12-V14.

So many new combinations could open up if they would implement something like that.
Far too many characters to list any more.
