Why can't we see players from other factions?

I personally think that this was a wasted opportunity for some epic World PvP, like in WoW.

I could imagine people just fighting amongst each other in the main faction's cities.

You are allowed to start going into other peoples factions around VR levels. Since you start out in their beginner zone, I don't think it would be very epic. VR2 vs fresh off the boat lvl 3.

It's more than a "see" issue. It's not that we're even in same instances with them - we may be in technically same zones but they're of different levels for us so we could as well be on the other sides of the planet. Combining them in one place would be...complicated to say the least with the way the system is currently implemented - like AD is Cadwell's Gold for my main, so mobs that are lvl 5 for AD players are vet 6 for me. That's quite a difference.
That wouldn't be an issue with zones like Craglorn(if they were made cross faction) but generally open world PvP isn't for everyone. If it ever were to be implemented(which I kind of doubt) they would have to be REALLY careful so people who don't want it wouldn't have to get involved.

i suspect it is hard coded into the game, that factions show up as Red for each other.

It'd be nice to see world pvp, maybe flagging for PvP could move the character to a PvP enabled instance of the Area Map, probably wouldn't see many people at first but i'd hazard a guess that alot more than most suspect would play PvP in this fashion.
-would certainly make juking an attack in cities a fun distraction.

Not gonna happen with mega servers. Some don't like PVP.
Anyone else rooting for Molag Bal?

The are completely difference instances of the world, not the same zone.
Different resources, different npcs (higher level).

Open world PVP games like Darkfall, never fared well tbh. I like the system as is, even if destroys the atmosphere of single alliance.

faction A has VR characters, why not allow them to play on the VR instances of their home maps? Specifically if you need to tick a check box to flag for pvp?

Most zones are kinda seperated by plot anyways... you do your normal story, in your lands, then you go cadwells, which is kinda something like a visit to an alternate reality... in neither place there ought to be any mixing between factions.

Now... coldharbour and craglorn on the other hand...

In coldharbour all factions are supposedly united against the greater threat of Molag Bal, yet sadly the developers missed a golden chance to actually let players from different factions mix it up in there, and instead send them to three different coldharbours, one for each alliance.

In craglorn... its less of an actual truce and alliance against a daedric prince, and more a call for help for anyone... they could just as well have made this another cooperative questing area, or maybe even a "PvP-optional" region, but again, seperated it by factions.

Maybe someday they will change those?
Maybe someday they will add more then just "beat up the other guys" cyrodil?

I would love to see some neutral region where all the factions can go, with a city where guards keep the peace, and a wilderness where everything goes. Go out hunting the two DC guys? Go for it. Group with the lone AD guy and do PvE quests? Go for it. Ungroup just after the boss fight and gank your former ally? Go for it! ;)

That, it seems, is Zenimax's entire business plan.

i posted this the other day, seems kinda relevant here-ish - section 3 bolded

they said when DLC content comes out, anyone will be able to do it, no matter what level as it'll be scaled.

if ZoS are putting scaling in the game, there's a good chance that this is what they're planning on doing with the removal of vet ranks.

    1. roll everyone back to level 50
    2. put in gear tiers/seasons and same for consumables.
    3. change the VR zones to scaled zones.

    now lets elaborate on this.

    1. rolling everyone back to 50 is self explanatory, CP will stay in tact but VR ranks will be gone. would not be surprised with if the 14 attribute and skillpoints are removed too. the hand that gives can also take.

    2. gear and items/consumables will likely be split into 4 tiers/seasons, depending on what VR level you were, in the same way that crafting is already split.
    for example:
calcinium is currently VR1-3 - would become season 1.
galatite is currently VR4-6 - would become season 2.
quicksilver is currently VR7-8 - would become season 3.
voidstone is currently VR9-14 - would become season 4.

so this represents some gear progression as i would think new seasons of gear are likely to be released when new DLC becomes available, tbh i think they should take this approach with caps for CP as well.

    3. scaling the VR zones. this all depends on how the scaling tech for DLC actually works and one would assume it's in the same manner as battle levelling - i.e. if you're level 20, your stats would be buffed to level 50 equivalents.

so, with everyone rolled back to 50, they could apply the scaling tech to the VR content and merge the zones with levelling players, so it's not so much of a solo wasteland levelling through VR anymore - yea, you'd be scaled down to anywhere from level 3 upwards, but you'd still have all you CP, which freshly rolled alts would have anyways.

but then, on top of having players of the other faction to mingle with and potentially team up with, the thieves guild and dark brotherhood can come into play. these could potentially create pvp situations in levelling zones, using the same "attack innocents" mechanic as the justice system, allowing you to start a fight with players of the opposing faction under threat of reprisal from the guards. there could even be player Vs player pickpocketing...

whilst cross faction chat in zones might be an issue - we have cross faction guilds, so maybe not such a big issue.

my ideas are probably far fetched, but i think this would be great for the game - vet zones would not only be optional content, but there would be great potential in exploring those areas and trolling the opposing factions by robbing them blind and starting fights in the streets with guards. people could make names for themselves as enemies of a specific faction if they get bounties above X gold, you could have player rewards for collecting bounties on other players from opposing factions.

it would bring a lot of life into what is currently a depressing solo experience (for the most part) and make a lot more of a unique mmo experience.

if this is what ZoS have planned, i'd take my hat off to them... but it's probably not

If you want to PVP, you need to join cyrodiil.
There is no PVP outside Cyrodiil, wich is great as we only have one megaserver and LOT of players would not want to be bothered with PVPer, gankers, trolls and the like while enjoying their stories.

HOWEVER...do not desperate because the Justice system Part2 should bring that PVP action for the players that choose to be outlaw or enforcer. we do not know when this will be implemented in the game though!

    Of course he did.

He also heard of the plans for Regular Content Updates, Wrothgar and Imperial City.

    They never happened either.

    1. The plan changed to when/if a long time ago.
    2. It would be optional PvP. If I don't steal at all or don't acquire a large enough bounty, I don't have to PvP.

The thing is, people don't want open PvP. There's a huge casual solo audience that would hate it if their PvE experience was disturbed. Think about balance in Cyrodiil, imagine letting these v14s with hundreds of CP loose on Tamriel and tell me it's a good idea... This is never going to happen on a megaserver.

I still want cross-alliance grouping, though.

This game is pve centric, with optional pvp, I see nothing wasted with this kind of game since it attacks more players, the pve'ers still make up a larger portion in most games than pvp'ers unless the game is pvp centric of course. ESO is rich in lore and story, some dude out trying to quest getting ganked at every corner is not fun for a lot of people. I enjoy cyrodiil, it is huge and has an open world pvp feel to me, I have pvp'ed in many games for many years, and the few pvp centric games I played always had the most transient player bases it seems.

I should have been more specific. There will never be open world, forced, PvP. I know what they have planned for the Justice System, and it will be opt-in, if it ever gets implemented at all.
