Weapon Skill-UP Question

Yesterday, I reached level 15 and got the ability to equip a backup weapon. My question is regarding weapon skill-ups. How are they calculated? I have been using strictly a one-handed weapon and shield. Now I would like to work on leveling up a second type of weapon, such as dual-wielding. I have read that you get skill-ups based on what skills are in your ability bar. So can I fight a mob and get it to a sliver of health with my main weapon and then switch to my backup for the kill to get the skill points to go into my backup?

I just add a skill from the backup line on my main bar, that way you're leveling two at once.

Yes. As long as the skill bar that is ACTIVE when you get the kill is the right one that you want, the XP will go to those skills.

When trying to level up new skill lines or skills, I tend to fill my second bar with those skills, and then switch to that bar when I turn in quests. You tend to get a large bulk of XP from quest turn-ins, so you can level up skills and skill lines pretty quickly by doing that.

Second bar doesnt get xp while you fight with the first bar.
If you want to lvl it up, just Switch to the other bar when you finish a quest.

or you could simply put 1 skill from the weap you want to lvl in you bar,

I usually kill mobs/World Bosses/Dolmen/Delves with my main bar and swap to my 2nd bar when I turn in quests. That way I can sort of still level both.
