Hey guys, i played ESO shortly (3days) in the beta, and ive played WoW since vanilla beta (+ some oldschool mmos like everquest 1, dark age of camelot etc.).
Im seeing a lot of positive reviews both on steam and metacritic so im considering giving ESO another try. In the beta i loved the environment and quests was fun but the fighting felt a bit floaty(lack of impact), and because of all the negative feedback+fee at the release i didnt buy it.

So my question is:
* What is the end game like+dungeons and how is the PVP? Is there are a lot of ganking on the pvp servers in the leveling zones?
* Does the combat feel good?
* What are the classes like? If i want to be a sorcerer or templar-battlemage with a 2h weapon, is that a decent choice or will i be underpowered?

I think you will get a lot of mixed reviews on the end game some people enjoy it, other people think it is a bit limited. I personally think it takes a long time to get there if you want to quest to it, so that is something to consider.

PvP it is a lot of zerg in a large zone. So if you want small group (2v2 etc.) you are out of luck. There are also no PvP servers, there is just one server per platform per region (so 1 PC North American server). There is no open world PvP in the levelling zones but there is a full, HUGE, zone dedicated to PvP you can join from Level 10 onwards.

I personally really like the combat but then again I never get what people say about impact.

If you want to min/max there are best builds, there is certain class/race/weapon combos that are better than others. However, if you just want to be good enough to get involved most things go as long as you are sensible and actually try to make the build you want work.

    1) there are no PVP servers, just mega servers for various regions and platforms. PVP is limited to Cyrodiil right now, so no need to be worried about being yanked in leveling zones.

    2) combat feels okay, but could still be better.

    3) most combos work fairly well right now, so make what you like.

You mean the ridiculously broken nonsense that is called pvp around here?

1: Very limited pve content, There are no pvp server with low lvl ganking all pvp is only in cyrodill wich is otften called horse simulator (huge map you only run to die into a zerg groop and run back)

2: Combat feel really squetchy and buggy with animation canceling.

3: There are good and bad build just like in any games

    1. I find a lot of the end game dungeons to provide a decent challenge, at least until you become very geared and skilled at the fights. There are 3 trial and 1 "arena" type trial, each with its own hard mode version. There are also a lot of veteran dungeons. There is only 1 megaserver, and PvP is only allowed in Cyrodiil. Right now PvP is limited to zerg (large scale battles) with various little 1 v 1's here and there since it's open world, but with Imperial City coming in just a few months this is very likely to change.
    2. I agree with you, the combat felt horrible during beta. It feels much, much better now.
    3. The answer to this question sort of goes along with my answer to number 1. The game is not so ridiculously hard that you have to min/max to succeed. You may be slightly less powerful than someone who does min/max, but all the content can be done successfully with nearly any build.

Of course there's ganking in PvP. It's PvP.

Regarding all else, it's not like WoW (thank Azura), so there is no real comparison to be had there (Sorry WoWtrolls).

Since sub is not required, there is more than enough content to get your money's worth out of the purchase price, no matter what you choose to do in game or how you choose to do it.

They've improved the combat feel considerably - just expect a much faster pace in some regards compared to what you experienced in Beta.

Did you enjoy your initial 3 days? (Bear in mind, it was Beta and there were likely more bugs than there are now, though it's not bug free). If so, it's worth at least the purchase cost.
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

How about race-choices? I read in another topic that nord-sorcerer is a "bad" combination. Does the race-passives really affect it that much?
Also, about tanking and healing, will people in a group expect the templar to always heal and the dragonknight to tank, or can other classes hold these roles decently as well?

I did enjoy it, although i didnt get very far, i tried sorcerer and dragonknight. The quests were great, the combat was my main complaint but if they have improved that a bit i guess ill give it another try.

    1. PVP is the best part of the game imo, sometimes the lag makes it unplayable though. End-game dungeons (4 man group) and trials (12 man raids) are fun in the beginning but offer little challenge once you have a solid build and know the boss mechanics.
    2. Combat feels good but its pretty fast sometimes, if you get ganked you usually have 1-2 seconds to react before you die. Fighting 1v1 is really fun, a big part of combat is knowing your opponents class and skills and how you can counter them.
    3. Magicka sorcs are pretty strong in pvp but the class has no synergy with stamina based weapons. The magicka builds are really fun though, sorcs have one of the best mobility spells and shield in the game. If you want to play a 2H battlemage I would suggest rolling a stamina templar, the damage and survivability is quite good.

If you're wanting to min/max then it is considered a bad choice. If you just want to have fun, you can do whatever and be fine. Some of the racials are a little imbalanced, but we've been told racial rebalancing, and possibly even racial passive swapping will be coming.

You won't be expected to heal just because you are a Templar, but if you are healing, they may want you as a Templar since they make the best healers. It just depends on the group for that. But there are plenty of Templar tanks and DPS in end game PvE. Any class can perform any role sufficiently, but there will always be a "best" class for a role. It's debatable whether DK or Templar make the best tanks, but Templars definitely make the best healers.
