How do you find your current quest location?

SirGreenDay
I've had this issue with 90% of my quests.

Its really making me want to stop playing out of frustration.

The problem is that this game is TERRIBLE at showing you where quest locations are.

Let me use my current quest (The waking dark) as an example.

I'm currently in Grahtwood.

When I choose the Map location of the quest, it points to a blank section of the map. Its just brown.

There's a quest icon near the spot, but when you place the cursor over it, my quest isntbone of the quests that that marker leads to. WTF??

How does that tell me anything?

EVERY other MMO, will show the the quest icon on the edge of your current map, if the quest is in an adjoining zone. Not ESO.

My quest isn't even in a different zone. Its in my current zone, yet there's no quest icon on the map or the compass bar. Nothing.

I've had to literally Google quests, just to find the zone they are in. That's not right.

You should see a quest marker for your active quest on ANY map you're looking at.

If you zoom all the way out to Tamriel, then there should be a quest marker showing in Grahtwood, and on and on.

I really want to love this game, but if I can't even find my quests, its no fun.

And I'm NOT new to MMO'S. I've been gaming over 35 years.

I'm also currently playing FFXIV, Neverwinter and DCUO.

I think that quest is in Bangkorai......a different zone.

That sounds like you have not entirely discovered the land where the quest is?

Me? I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid.

That's great, but the point of the post is that finding quests is broken.

    No.

    I've fully discovered the zone.

And besides, I've obviously discovered the zone I'm standing in, so there should be a quest marker somewhere on the map I view when I press the touchpad, indicating where to head to.

Hell, even when using a WayShrine, it doesn't show the quest marker for your active quest.

If I zoom all the way out to see the zone that Grahtwood is in, there should be a quest marker visible.

Play FFXIV or DCUO or Neverwinter and you'll see what I mean.

    Zenimax is clueless.

Just saying. It's pretty easy if you look the Map to find quest areas, that's what I do. Take Alik'r desert for example, you start in sentinel and pretty much just follow the road going up and down in a eastwards motion.

If you look at an empty Map and see brown clusters of buildies or the like then good chance quests are there.

Doing it that way, I only lack 4 quests in daggerfall glenumbra-bangkorai. And I know where those quests are and I have them, they're just "right of the gate" quests at daggerfall i just skipped.

Another thing I've noticed (that i don't like they did) was for quest zones (the white rings), it can sometimes be a transparent circle only about 1cm x 1cm that I have to look for on a green/light green Map, pretty annoying. Are you talking about that? Or literally not being able to see the white arrows?

Only quest I can find with a similar name is the "The Waking Darkness". Quest is located in Bangkorai. Assuming you have already ventured through Bangkorai? If so, go back there.

For reference, OP is most likely referring to The Wakening Dark, in Gil-Var-Delle.

There are a number of quests in ESO where you have to search the area for whatever it is you need to be looking for, but for the most part, quest icons do appear on the zone map, but only with respect to the area you are in. So if you're inside a house, you'll need to leave the house for the marker to appear in the right place on the map, otherwise it'll just show you where the door is. This is designed so that you know you have to go through the door before you can start off in the direction that the quest marker is pointing in (useful if you're in a cave and need to go to the cave exit in the east before you can go to the quest location in the west).
