Making money.

Is the Legerdemain skill tree worth putting points into? I am in desperate need of quick coin and I was told the fastest way to level was to steal. Since stealing things off shelves is almost completely out of the question due to lack of things to steal the next best is pickpocketing. Pickpocket takes patience to get the right moment and % chance. So is this tree worth it? Or is there a better way to make quick gold?

Best way to make quick money is steal from desks/dressers/wardrobes etc. Only loot the green 100g items or better, take then to a fence, and BOOM! Profit!

Pickpocketing is risky, assuming you're trying to avoid bounty, but can be beneficial when you get good (ie. level up legerdemain). Stealing and fencing is pretty safe, just make sure you're hidden when you steal. Making gold is hard when you want to decon everything for xp, it gets easier though. No real way to make gold fast early game, you kind of just have to play and not spend, and then all of a sudden you have 30k.

Level up the skill that allows you to fence more items each day, and as the one guy said loot things of at least green rarity. i have looted blue and purple rarity also, so those are possible even on a fresh character. those are worth investing a points in, upping the fencing limits. the fastest way to make gold on a new character, and you can do it on each toon per day if you have the patience so that yyou can make more gold accountwide if you enjoy stealing. I enjoyed the stealing for a while. once you find a good place with a lot of drawers or pots/wardrobes etc and it's easy to become and stay hidden you have a gold mine. figure out the quickest/safest rotation then log out and back in until you're full on at least greens if you have the patience. if you're doing it on multiple characters it'll be faster to loot everything that is worth at least 30g, and deleting for greens when in a goldmine and you become full on a final rotation or 2. you get lots of xp for the thieving and fencing. on a new character. it's pretty nice. there was also an achievement for wearing a full set (an item in every slot at once) of stolen gear. I didn't care enough to save stolen gear for that achievement, but I remember it being there. if you start in aldmeri the main town in the first zone in the banker area there are plenty of lootables that you can do in a quick rotation. on a fresh toon. and the outlaw den is literally a hop and a skip across the way form the building if you get caught. i had been seen a few times though by the angles i should not have, by one of the elf ladies that roams. she can suddenly knock you out of hidden while looting, but you get the feel for her and the guards roaming quickly and it's a quick run. loot, log, repeat then go fence in the den.

Thanks, that seems like pretty good advice.

I've generally been attacking the fighters guilds and the weaponsmith in the market (doesn't really matter which town so long as there's a fighters guild and market... Obviously :p)
Grab all the weapons and armour you can and head off the the outlaws refuge.
    Rinse and repeat.

I've tried pick pocketing several times with no luck at all.. I always get busted :(

I don't really get many green items with this method but it's still an effective way of getting gold and increasing your leadermain skill.
The green stuff is obviously better but is harder to come by. There's always plenty of grey/white stuff to steal that will still get you some coin and experience.

Another good method is stealing from areas where npc' aren't. For example an abandoned castle or burned out village. You may not get high quality stuff but there's no risk of getting caught and it's still stealing so adds to your ledgermain level.
