So I have to wait a long time to get 10 k for a mount? My legs are getting tired

Gather and sell Raw Materials. A stack of 100 can usually sell for 1.5-3k. Or refine them and sell the improvement items from it.

Gold is definitely much easier to come by at higher levels than when you are a new toon. But if you're struggling this much, Think about buying a crown store amount instead, so you have gold left to feed your horse every day and make it useful.

Yeah there is a way around the problem make sure to follow the steps closely though.

    -open the crown store
    -click buy crowns
    -click on a mount
    -click buy
    -you now have a mount

    Want it to be better

    -open the crown store
    -click buy crowns
    -click on lessons
    -buy a few of each
-your mount is now alot better

Hope this helps not many guides out about this :D

What if he cant afford/doesnt want to waste real money on a virtual horse?

I just got 10k by the time I was lvl 15. Sold mats in the guild store and did quests and that pretty much did it.

I have a question about getting money tho and this seems like a decent place to post it. I see that there are many items that sell to vendors for 0g or 1g. Stuff like food/ingredients and the crafting stones (the things that let you craft in certain race styles). Is there any way to get more than 1g or nothing for items like these? I supposed the guild store, but I have found that so far people tend to not check the guild store for vendor items that are on the cheap side.

As of now I have just been destroying a lot of this stuff. Especially the stones because I have not found any of the books that let me craft in another style besides my starting race.

Ignoring the more smartass answers you have received, the way I have always made money is just to pick up everything; loot everything and sell it every time your bag is full, don't just pick up stuff your char needs, loot EVERYTHING then sell it to a vendor. I have never done the thieves guild thing. Run delves several times through and kill and loot every NPC you come across, don't just sneak past, get as much loot as poss, you will accumulate it quite quickly without even noticing.

Just try to spend your money as little as possible and you will get there eventually

Agreed. There's really no reason to spend money on anything before VRs. No reason to repair gear since gear gets replaced so often, no reason for food/drink buffs, etc. Just save up the money for a mount and sell every piece of gear you find.

Mount and extra Bag space should be the only investment you make. Also if you don't feel bad about it just search out the treasure chests using one of the many online maps of ESO. Google Search: ESO MAP

You can also look to steal things from house and lock boxes as you will find treasures which you can fence for 30 or 100 gold each.

It used to be 17k... And I waited for the 42k one and survived... Uphill in the snow etc.

Worse news to your bad news: when you buy your first horse, it will be so slow you'll prefer to run instead. :) It'll take some feeding before you really feel the difference.

Endless gallop is much better then running out of stamina on foot, even if the horse speed isn't a major difference (still faster then running though).

If you do decide to buy crowns don't just buy crowns get the ESO plus for $15 you get 1 month and 1500 crowns or for 1500 crowns it still cost $15. This is true for the ps4 I'm not sure about the Xbox but guessing it's the same. If you don't buy crowns then don't forget you can travel way shrine to shrine for free and don't spend your money on gear create it yourself it's better and almost cost nothing to make.

ESO plus is never a good ide
Only the imperials get to ride from the start. All us other peons have to save up a long time until we can afford a horse. Well, or steal a lot of stuff.
That said... its still easy enough to get together these days. Unless you really have your heart set on one of the nifty colors...

But as has been said, back in the old days... we had to pay 17K, AND there was no easy way to burglar yourself some riches, we had to go questing in the snowy heights of skyrim, run uphill to the mobs, then uphill to the vendor, then uphill to some more mobs, all day long, for weeks upon weeks to finally afford that horse! You young adventurettes have no idea how good you have it these days, now gerroff mah lawn! ;):D

We should be able to steal a horse, eh?

Please explain to me how buying 1500 crowns for $15 is better than getting ESOplus and 1500 crowns for $15

Classic B2P/F2P situation. Wait it out and play the game until you can afford it, or pay ZOS real money to get it quicker.

This eventually leads to players who don't use the cash store feeling like they are wasting their time playing your game, which is probably not a good thing.

If they weren't spending money in the first place, there's no real problem.

Maybe someone has mentioned it but I'm not going to bother to read through all the responses. A pro-tip for leveling up - Don't repair your armor. It's just money down the drain. You'll constantly be switching out armor pieces for a better one as you're leveling up and it really just doesn't matter very much how damaged they are.

I have $5300 gold at level 17. I don't plan on spending any real life $ on this game. I don't even think I'll need a horse with how easy it is to get around... what's the point?

It's really not hard to get gold, either be patient and earn it (won't take long) or go buy a mount/imperial edition. No use complaining about it

The mount was actually more expensive at release (17k or 42k) and it was neither B2P or F2P and no crown store... so this post makes no sense. They actually made it LESS expensive.

You get a bounty if you're seen, and if caught by the guards while you have a bounty you have to either pay it off or run away. If you run you become kill-on-sight. The bounty gradually deteriorates, and when it's gone (or you pay it off) you're upstanding again and it's as if none of it ever happened.
