ESO needs more Racism.

I think the game could benefit by a racism, sexism, and classism pass for the NPCs.

One of my favorite parts of sky rim was walking past a condecding elf or an orc who didn't like my imperial character.
One of my friends played sky rim as an imperial working for the storm cloaks and got a different experience because of the feeling of being a distrusted outsider saving the day and being scoffed at.
Just the odd NPC reaction to your race or sex could do wonders for immersion.

With the explorers pack available players might be able to experience the feeling of being a stranger in a strange land during vet rank story missions.

Some suggestions for racism or sexism might be

Your player might receive a necklace gift in the mail from a secret admirer. If the player takes it and wears it, it activates an optional quest involving being stalked.
A stalker NPC who just appears in the same town as you, knowing about your adventures or actions. The already used mechanic of NPCs talking about your deeds might take a sinister turn if a stalker tells you he liked you in better in light armor or something like that. He could fill your mail inbox with unwanted love letters or jewelry. I dunno maybe there's something there maybe not. I'm thinking something like the fight fan from oblivion. Remember?

A slight increase or decrease in a merchants pricing depending on your race.

Random NPCs might remark about your race, class, sex, criminal history, or supernatural nature.

If players have the larceny skill line unlocked, NPCs might hiss and scoff as the criminal passes by.

And if a store owner was particularly offensive, he might falsely accuse a player of stealing even though they are innocent.

The guards would stop the poor accused player and the charge would be 0 gold, so the player could feel the fear of being falsely accused with no actual in game repercussions.

This mechanic might help to create and understanding about what its like to be hated, mistreated or just ignored because of your race, class or criminal history.

I know these are touchy subjects but their inclusion. Is part of what helped sell the 'reality' sky rim was offering.

The herbalist in white run noticed how pale my character was and always asked be if I had mud crab sickness. It made me laugh every time.

How do you think ESO could benefit from enhanced NPC reactions to your character?

Thanks for your time.

What you are describing reminds me of some of the game mechanics used in Morrowind.

There were faction bonuses and deficits depending on what groups you were part of - and who liked and who hated those groups.

There was also a skill (more than one) that effected how people would react to you, prices they would ask or pay for things.

    I do miss those.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Its kind of a hallmark of this game series. NPCs reaction to your character and action are already there. This just moves it more in line with what skyrim had.

Don't we get enough of this crap in real life? Do we really need more racism, sexism and homophobia in the game?

Even in Skyrim, sure, people made comments or were condescending, but it didn't really mean anything.

I get enough other players attempting to kill me (or succeeding on their end? I don't know) and humping me like bunnies. The last thing I need is for my red-guard maidens to have to deal with racism, stalking and *** as well.

    Sheesh.

Yeah. Pardon the click bait title but that's kind of what I'm thinking of. Factions and favoritism would be amazing but I would settle for just a smattering of NPC reaction dialogue.

    Great post.

I absolutely agree. NPCs noticing my race - even if it's negatively due to their bias - would be awesome. Same thing for being a Vampire or Werewolf, it would be great to be actually noticed. The white-washed NPCs being blind to our race/gender even though their dialogue has them clearly opinionated on race/sex is kind of disappointing.

Racism has been a part of TES games for a long time. It has gotten toned down somewhat, but it is still there. You can hear some NPCs talking to each other and disparaging other races. So, it's still in this game.

A lot of people missed the dialog diffferences in Morrowind because they would level up their skills and attributes past some of the intermediate stages while out of town. One character I made really puttered and gained levels on a glacial pace, I read things from NPCs that were quite funny or insulting.

I wonder how much of that we missed in Oblivion or Skyrim because we leveled too quickly?
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

PakKat "Everything was going well, until I died"
Gary Gravestink "I am glad you died, I needed the help"

Hmm. What I am suggesting would be more in line with the NPC reactions of sky rim. Immersive fluff. The other stuff is just for consideration. Like social experiments.

Plenty of racism and some sexism in past TES games, but never homophobia.

Not actual racism. But this might help certain groups to empathize with other groups. Roleplaying is an empathy building exercise. I have never falsely been accused of stealing because of my race but it happens. Again its just an idea. NPC reactions to your character are an elder scrolls staple.

Many mechanics from the single player games would be difficult to implement. NPC voice reactions to an item on your character already exist and would be a easier to include.
