It used to be 17k... And I waited for the 42k one and survived... Uphill in the snow etc.

Worse news to your bad news: when you buy your first horse, it will be so slow you'll prefer to run instead. :) It'll take some feeding before you really feel the difference.

You reach the 10k gold easily.

Steal some npc, sell some mats/foods/stuff in a merchant guild,etc.. There are a lot of way to make money.

there is a productivity increase to buying at least one or two upgrades to your bag and bank, since that lets you collect more stuff to sell while out adventuring. It is one step backward, two forward. Earlier you do it the better. If you have 10 extra slots, in 10 trips that's 100 extra items you sold to merchants, and at 10 per slot you've generated 1000.

Classic B2P/F2P situation. Wait it out and play the game until you can afford it, or pay ZOS real money to get it quicker.

This eventually leads to players who don't use the cash store feeling like they are wasting their time playing your game, which is probably not a good thing.

I think you have far more gold than I did at level 10 than when I first started this game :) It takes time to learn what's required to put a little coin in your pocket. Now it's easier with Legerdemain, but that is not everyone's cup of tea. Complete the quests, that usually gives you a bit of gold, and although it's not much at the beginning, it will start adding up. Sell some of the things you don't need to the vendors. Always keep an eye out for Treasure chests for the gold and wonderful green level junk :)

If you do decide to buy crowns don't just buy crowns get the ESO plus for $15 you get 1 month and 1500 crowns or for 1500 crowns it still cost $15. This is true for the ps4 I'm not sure about the Xbox but guessing it's the same. If you don't buy crowns then don't forget you can travel way shrine to shrine for free and don't spend your money on gear create it yourself it's better and almost cost nothing to make.

Agreed. There's really no reason to spend money on anything before VRs. No reason to repair gear since gear gets replaced so often, no reason for food/drink buffs, etc. Just save up the money for a mount and sell every piece of gear you find.

Only the imperials get to ride from the start. All us other peons have to save up a long time until we can afford a horse. Well, or steal a lot of stuff.
That said... its still easy enough to get together these days. Unless you really have your heart set on one of the nifty colors...

But as has been said, back in the old days... we had to pay 17K, AND there was no easy way to burglar yourself some riches, we had to go questing in the snowy heights of skyrim, run uphill to the mobs, then uphill to the vendor, then uphill to some more mobs, all day long, for weeks upon weeks to finally afford that horse! You young adventurettes have no idea how good you have it these days, now gerroff mah lawn! ;):D

@purefitzzman There are lots of ways to make money, but start by not pissing away what you do have. Don't spend on repairs, replace worn armor with drops instead. Don't buy anything from NPC vendors, they are all overpriced. Make do with equipment from rewards and loot drops. The only places you should be spending gold is bag and bank space.

As mentioned, stealing stuff is a good way to earn gold. Also, selling stacks of raw mats in guild stores should bring in considerable gold. Blue and purple recipes sell well. Right now, fishing can be very profitable if you get some Perfect Roe to sell. Just one is enough to get a 10k horse. I already have half dozen out of a few hundred fish.

Keep leveling and selling items as much as you can. Stealing items is great way to get gold. I know a few people that did enough stealing they could afford a horse in no time. I'm sure you can find a few guides on the web about the best way to go about that.

You can just go & grab The Imperial Edition upgrade. It is very much worth the price. The Imperial horse may not be as unique as some of the other mounts on the crown store but it's the best deal considering the extras you get with the bundle.

    1. When I was starting out I put one skill point into Legerdemain Skills > Trafficker which allows you to fence 110 items per day. Sneaking around the buildings and especially castles in your starter city, you can find many items that are 30 gold or more each. So that's a minimum of 3,300 gold per day. It may not be the type of gameplay you want to do initially, but it will get you your gold for your horse in three days.

    2. Make certain you sell ornate items to the vendor rather than deconstruct them.
    3. Sell the potions, food, and drink that you loot, that you don't think you'll need.

One of the things I really enjoyed about starting out in ESO was the gradual increase. There feels like there's a purpose in questing whether it be to get gold for a horse, inventory upgrade, or that shiny new thing that caught my eye. I've only been playing for a few months now, and my bank balance has never had more than 55,000 gold. There's always something I'm working toward.

I'm V14 and have about 20K gold, but you don't see me complaining in the forums about it... Get one of the crown shop mounts if you're desperate - or go into Dwemer dungeon and find Dwemer motif pages - 2-3 of those should probably net you 12-15K in most guild stores.

For lazy people, maybe. But those of us who have been playing since launch were spending far more on mounts before they ever introduced the crown store.

It's simple. You aren't going to have a ton of gold right off the bat as a new player. You have to put in the time and effort just like everyone else did.

OP, if you spend a little time carefully stealing from containers in a city you can easily make 10K in a couple of days spending an hour or so a day.

Starting off you have the ability to sell 50 stolen items/day to the fence, and stolen items are worth 30 gold (for white items), 100 gold (for green items), 250 gold (for blue items), and I don't remember how much for purple. If you sell just green items, along with whatever blues or purples you get, you'll hit 10K gold in just 2 days. If you mix some white items in there it'll probably take 3-4 days.

Having 2k gold at level 10 on your first run through is actually quite impressive. I don't think I managed to obtain more than 5-10k gold _total_ on my first run through. I had no idea what was going on, mostly selling things and buying worthless things I had no idea about.

Making gold in this game is actually super easy compared to most other MMOs out there. Pick up, steal, and pillage everything you come across and sell it. Whether you vendor it or join a trade guild and sell it to other players, you'll have enough for a mount in no time.

Oh and don't spend your gold on silly things before you hit VR levels. Buying gear and such is pointless until you're over the 50 mark. You'll just out level it within a few hours of playing and find something better dropped by an NPC. Mount, bag, inventory and bank space should be the only things you purchase pre-VR.
