I am colour blind - can't tell the difference between blue and purple items

irukandhji
Hi,

Well the title says it all basically, I have a mild form of this illness, I can see colours but in this game I can't make the difference between blue and purple items witch is kinda frustrating in dungeons when I loot... And also when I sell and deconstruct stuff.
Is there an option or something that would actually help me make the difference between these item type's besides only the colour?
Thanks

If your a console player then i dont think there are any color blind options zos is fairly narrow minded when it comes to accessability on the console. There isnt even subtittles for the hearing impaired

For gear with traits you can tell the quality from the strengh of the trait.

Yes I guess that would work but I'm new to the game and don't really know how they scale...
I guess I'll get used to it, still it would have been nice to have an option to tell straight away what kind of item it is...

Making changes for hearing etc is a double edged sword for ZoS

On the upside you've helped a fraction of your audience, on the downside, those that feel they have a reason for a change they'd like, then start requesting for that more with the 'well you helped xxxx, it's discrimination'

So either way it's bad for them

I have daily uncontrolled seizures, memory problems, muscle twitches, speech, movement, sight can be affected etc etc etc

Now if ZoS added in lets say a text box to console for those shy or speech issues .. I know ppl who would the harass ZoS with changes that would benefit them using the disability card.
ZoS please understand everyone thinks and pronounces things differently, so please add to your 'rules' that things get removed if the Mod doesn't actually quite understand phrasing

I see where you are coming from but at the same time i cant help but feel it was very lazy and narrow minded of them to not even implement the most basic of accessability options found in pretty much all modern games.

Probably not very convenient, but for gear you could go to crafting stations and see which item is needed to improve to the next tier to work it out (e.g. if it wants you to use Mastic for a wood item, it's blue and if it wants Rosin it's purple). Like I said, not very convenient and means you'll have to remember (or write down) the items for each craft, but it might save you from deconstructing something you don't want to.

How about color adjustment options through your TV?

There is a value difference on many items based on its quality. If you can find two of the same sort the range should be evident.
Scura di Notte - Altmer Nightblade (gear)
Lalin del Sombra - Bosmer Sorcerer (alchemy/enchanting)
    Angevin Sarkany - Bosmer Dragonknight
Alkemene Velothi - Dunmer Warden (Morrowind)
Sanna yos'Phalen - Altmer Sorcerer (provisioning)
    Cosima di Mattina -Altmer Sorcerer
    Naria Andrano - Dunmer Templar
Luca della Serata - Redguard Templar

This is a possibility some tvs do have color blind sliders.

Or the ability to adjust individual color sliders.

Yep even individual sliders would work could be a bit time consuming the first time around though, if your using a shared tv and need to reset it to default standards just write down the color ratio numbers for the future refrence.

Yarp. Hopefully the OP can find some way of assisting that way.

Ty guys. I have tried the TV thing... Doesn't work, I was thinking of an option to tick where it would say - common, rare, legendary, epic, ancient etc...
If there is no such option I'll manage another way.

Has there been any talk about how to add in Add ons to PS4 of Xbox one. or is it imposable due to the way PS4 and Xbox are set up.

I am sure your looking at loot drops here and trying to figure them out. Since loot drops at your level (usually) you can use price as a guide. White Staves will always sell for the same price at the same level, Bows the same price, same with anything else. Green, which you don't mention as an issue so I will assume you can see that OK, will have a higher price. I think the price is like 10 gold more or there abouts. Blues and purples even more so. So, use the Whites and Greens to determine the normal prices and anything above that for your level will be blue or purple.

On the other hand, you really want to decon any Blues or Purples anyway (unless your going to use them) an easier way to handle the game would be to just sell the Whites and Greens and decon the Blues and Purples without worrying about which they are. Of course this works as long as you can tell that Blue/Purple is not White/Green.

The reason you want to decon the Blues and Purples is for the Tempers. Even if your not a crafter, they sell in the Guild Stores.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I feel for you. I struggle with my colour blindness in this game. I can't tell you how many times I have taken damage from a 'Red' ring on brown or green earth/stone that I cannot even see. I don't even bother with Trials etc in this game as I don't want to be the cause of any groups issues.

For gear with traits you can tell the quality from the strengh of the trait.

Hoping there will be options in future able to help you, this advice is a good one, at least for armor pieces and weapons.

Here you can find the correct percentages according to the quality of the item and its trait. :)

Maybe you can try using a crafting station and select the upgrade option, the screen will tell you the next quality upgrade for your item, this will tell you the current quality of the armour/weapon. Hope it helps.

The best thing to do in your case would be to deconstruct anything your not going to use then. As all of the improvement items have different icons except for a couple of them. The fact that a couple look the same shouldn't matter as they will only show up on the crafting tables they can be used at.

One way you could check the item is to go to the crafting table to improve it. See what item it's requiring to improve the item. That will tell you what color it is. See below.

Cloth Blue item will require Elegant Lining to Improve. If the item will only be improved with Druex Wax then it's purple.
Wood blue item will require Mastic to improve. If it will only improve with Rosin then it's purple.
Heavy armor/weapon Blue item will require Grain Solvent to improve to purple. If it requires Temper Alloy then the item is purple.

Yeah, what ^ @Ocelo said.... lol didn't see it till after I posted this...DOH!

Sorry to hear that you're having such problems. It surprises me a little that there's no options for the visually-hearing impaired players, as it wouldn't take more than subtitles (even for purple items they could have a fine print saying which colour they are, which could be toggled on and off from the settings menu when you bring the item up in your inventory). I do think joining a friendly guild and explaining your situation might help, as at least then you could always ask a guildmate for help.

The fact that the items don't say what improvement level they are doesn't surprise me one bit.... After all, unless you have a Guild Store Addon, you have no clue what item was sold on the gold you just received through the game email.......

There are a lot of things that aren't in the game that should be. It's all just lazy programming and managements poor decision to push unfinished products into the marketplace because the investors are getting money hungry.......

Could I ask if there are any other colour-based issues, besides distinguishing purple/blue items, that you have with the game? Item quality should be a relatively easy thing for ZOS to address by using words in the tooltips, but if there are other issues with colour that cannot be addressed in this way, maybe we could brainstorm some suggestions.

I'm red/green color blind and have the same issue. Gear I can figure out because of the stat values of the items. Only other thing I can think of are the AoE telegraphs from enemies. A red telegraph on green grass is near impossible for me to see. Not sure if they are difficult to see by design or if it's just me.
