Hey Deadly, the writ surveys are a pain in the ass! I remember Googling them for hours trying to figure it out. Basically all your looking for is a dense cluster of material nodes! The maps give you the general area to look in then you're on your own trying to find the exact location.
It's usually worth it with a huge haul of the raw materials, trait gems, and improvement materials. Once you've gathered the nodes the map will disappear from your inventory.
