Mass Hysteria for PVE

I'm running a nightblade and am looking for some good CC skills to use when I get in a bind. Is mass hysteria a decent skill to take for pve scenarios. Also does the effect carry over if I swap weapons after casting? I'm running a dw/bow build and could use a good cc for when I get mobbed while I'm shooting from a distance and everyone comes running toward me. I know the distance to use the skill is pretty short, but I'd pretty much only use it for when I get surrounded.

As an alternative, what does anyone think of agony and its morphs as well as mirage and its morphs as a dodge buff ability. Please share some thoughts.

I've never had much success with the fear skills for my nightblade, but a lot of players swear by it. I've found some limited use for agony when dealing with 2-3 tougher enemies by myself, since it locks one down, but you have to be really careful with it.

Nightblades kinda get screwed when it comes to CC abilities. You're better off using bombard spam as an aoe root than class abilities to keep those enemies at bay.

Why would you ever get into such "a bind" in PVE..If you do not have enough damage to melt everything with AOE as a stamina NB you can take cloak and run away.

As for Agony It is more or less the most useless skill in the game. Yeah yeah I know some people think it is not and try to give arguments that it is not. They are wrong.

Dont know true number of affected targets Mass Hystreria, but it works great for low numbers of mobs (keeping enemies feared isnt domain of stamina based NB). If you swap from DW - where usually that skill fits - effect of casted skill doesnt vanishes, so you can freely use bow when targets run away from you. Honesltly, Mass Hysteria like Dark Cloak should have always be on hotbar of any NB.
Agony skill may be useful, but target couldnt be hit when it was casted. With heavy AoE spam is just waste of space for another skill. Mirage as dodge skill, in my opinion, is much better than Evasion from medium armor skill line - adds dodge rate + small amount of armor AND costs magicka, giving you more ST for skills, dodge rolls.

Hi,

Mass hysteria is like the ugly step sisters in Cinderella,

Everyone hates them just like mass hysteria,
It is probably the one skill that i really hate and love at the same time,

I hated it and swore i would NEVER use it,
However if you want to be competitive in Cyrodiil you will have to use it,

Block DK's hate it, Sorcs Hate it, Jesus Beam Templars hate it,
and all are shouting NERF, NERF, NERF.......

It works on upto 3 opposition and i use it as an offensive and defensive skill,

When attacking ambush, surprize attack, FEAR -> Kill,

When in trouble,
Fear, Dark Cloak, Double take -> Outa there,

Sometimes you get caught,
lol...

I would certainly use it if i were you, it will buy you time to drink a potion.

For PvE, Mass Hysteria is usually not needed. If you want to avoid damage against multiple mobs, you're usually best served with Double Take. If you need Healing against multiple mobs, mark one target with Reaper's Mark and focus it down as soon as you need healing with Killer's Blade.

Mass hysteria affects 3 enemies, is a hard cc as in it will incapacitate them, interrupt spellcasting, once affected will cause minor Maim, reducing their damage for 4secs and snaring them. It is also a shadow ability which will proc the This is really awesome during leveling and also while soloing dolmens.

In terms of dungeon pve however you want to maximise your damage and have probably reaper's mark or killer's blade for survivability.

Thanks for the advice everyone. It seems there are mixed feelings on this skill, so I'll see if I can level without it and only use a skill point if I actually need it. I was just looking for something to round out my bow/buff bar. So far I'm planning on:

Focused aim
magnum shot
reaper's mark
Poison injection
grim focus/siphoning attacks

You should get Manifestation of Terror because it will fear ALL enemies not only 3

If you want to do stuff like Public Dungeons etc Solo it is better

Isn't that a static trap though? It seems I'd get more use out of an aoe. Most mobs are groups of 2-3 too.

yes it's a trap. But it will trigger after ~1 second.
