Help salvage my build

Hey everybody I'm an Imperial Templar. I wanted to do mostly health/stamina kindof paladin style since I'm using 2H right now but the more I read on here & talk to people the more I'm questioning everything. I really don't want to be worthless in endgame & don't want to waste huge amounts of time as I go along here, I really want a character I can devote my time in and be confident the build will work down the road. I'm currently 26.

What should I set my stats to? In terms of putting health/stamina/magika points? Should I stay tankish or do more magika? Even health & Stam? More of one or the other?

Should I stick with the 2H or switch to a staff or sword & board?

I don't need to do the highest dmg in the game but I don't want to be a pillow fisted tank either, and definitely don't want to be a dedicated healer. I want a lot of survivability with a touch of support.

Any help would be hugely appreciated thanks everybody!

    Hi,

    i have a breton templar,
using 2H and Sword and board,

I put all my attributes into Stamina,
Most my armour glyphs into magicka,

My templar is now VR1 and really quite tanky,

as a templar paladin playstyle you dont need a restoration staff.

If you're looking totank you should definitely start levelling up sword and board, you can slot two different weapons :)

With the current design of the game, I recommend you choose the way you want to do damage and stat for that. If you want to use melee weapons or Bow, then stat for stamina.

If you split your points between magika and stamina you will be gimping yourself in the long run. Your weapon damage scales off stamina and spell damage off magika.

Consider this: If you spend 85% of your time fighting with Stamina based weapons the average player would put maybe 20 points in health and all the rest in stamina. They would then typically put all max stamina glyphs on their armor and jewelry for stamina cost reduction.

Considering this, just stop a little short of full stamina investment and put a couple glyphs in magika or some tweaks to allow you to use magika more than the standard player might and you will hit a middle ground between effectiveness and utility.

If you try to do everything, you may end up not doing anything well.

Based on what you said above I would recommend you wear 5 pcs heavy armor and 2 pc medium armor.

Stats for Health/Stam only 3 points into stamina for every 1 point in health (finish with about 20 points at VR14 Cap in health all the rest in stamina).

Enchant each piece of armor for max stamina, and maybe jewelry with a neck for stam cost reduction and two rings for magika cost reduction.

You will still have a magika pool, and the cost reduction for each thing you cast will be nice. You'll hit very strong DPS and be sturdy, and able to cast a few heals and some utility a little easier than most and only sacrifice a small bit of DPS.

I find nothing wrong with stamina Templar. You can equip yourself with a 2hander and dw since a Templar has more than enough tools for survival.

You did state you dont need to have an optimum endgame build so really, its all jist about synergising your abilities and buffs.

Yeh maybe I worded that wrong, maybe not the best Templar on the block, but I definitely want to be able to get through the endgame stuff and contribute. I don't want to become worthless at any point. I think I'm going to stay with 2H, start putting all my points in Stam -now I'm at 14 Health 14 Stamina 0 magika. I'm also thinking 5medium 2 heavy from now on. Dyou think I should bow or dual wield on my backup slot?

I prefer duel wield over two hand, but i'm a night blade and I have surprise attack as my spam - only occasionally use wrecking blow in PvP for the CC. You could make either viable, but I recommend two hand/bow or two hand/dw. I wouldn't go DW/Bow with Templar personally. From this point it's just personal play style.
