Or I take it this is another misinterpretation of the Skyrim quote?
Actually from what I've seen it's that rumoured "original" meaning that's a misinterpretation (or possibly deliberate misinformation).
I've looked into it on several occasions previously and found absolutely no mention of it that pre-dates Skyrim, and all the discussions on the real or original meaning and where it originates consist of linguists and people from Scandinavia stating that they've never heard of it before, or in any context unrelated to the game.
