What is up with the age verification on the website?

Seriously, what is with the "age verification" on the website? Accidently set the wrong year and suddenly you're [snip] until it resets and asks for your birthday again. I have yet to see any content in this game worthy of an age check. As far as game with combat and suggestive themes go, this one is very very mild.

Edit: You don't even need to go through the website to get to the forums. Google gives that upfront anyway. The only thing the website for this game is good for is checking on some of the in game store deals that might be upcoming, as advertised in the game launcher.

Yes, that's happened to me a couple of times too, and it wouldn't even let me view Battlemasters Corner, or any other community stuff.
It's incredibly annoying if you misclick the date.

I think it might be a legal requirement, but I'm not sure.

I used to carefully select my actual birth date, until I realised it's not linked to my account or anything. Now I just make sure I've scrolled past 1990 and then click a random year, month and day.

The game has mature themes such as alcohol and bloodshed. You can thank 'merica's sue happy mentality. It's not ZOS's fault, they are just doing it to cover themselves.
"And it's important to state that our decision to go with subscriptions is not a referendum on online game revenue models. F2P, B2P, etc. are valid, proven business models - but subscription is the one that fits ESO the best, given our commitment to freedom of gameplay, quality and long-term content delivery. Plus, players will appreciate not having to worry about being "monetized" in the middle of playing the game, which is definitely a problem that is cropping up more and more in online gaming these days. The fact that the word "monetized" exists points to the heart of the issue for us: We don't want the player to worry about which parts of the game to pay for - with our system, they get it all."

unfortunally it is not ZoS deciding it is inapropiate for younger people, but it is outside, government related organisations.
They decided that the game has inapropiate content, so wether or not you agree or not, is not relevant to ZoS cause they have nothing to do with it.

They are legally bound to ask you your age and you are legally bound to fill it in correctly. If you fail to do so, the responsability is not ZoS's, but yours.

tl;dr: the reason it is asked is cause of laws. Nothing can be done bout it.

There is nothing in this game or site that merits having you to input a random age almost every time you visit just to view the site. It's an even more pain in the butt on mobile... I wish they just remove it. Only way to avoid it is to not ever click "home"

What is ZOS reason for not having cookies to remember you? That is what makes age gate annoying.

Everytime I try to go there, I just get this infinite loop with the age gate.
    Put in age, click
    Get website, click on article
Get sent back to age gate

Exactly. I can be logged into the forum, click on a link from the rest of the site and age gate every click. It's like they don't even actually want you to explore the site. :cookie: -monster has sadface

You only have to redo it once the history has been deleted most browsers do it weekly but you can do it manually when ever you want. You can also set it to delete it way in future!
