How are you supposed to play pvp when you're VR rank 2 / champion rank 5?

I remember quitting, before the champion patch, because you could never compete with the VR12 players.
I came back to try out the new patch because I thought the old VR system was removed and people were more equal now but oh boy was I wrong. The first thing that happened when I stepped in to Cyrodiil was me getting one-shotted by a coward stealthing around.

Is there a even bigger gap now between the low ranks and the high ranks?

Am I forced to quest my way up to highest VR / champion to even think of playing pvp? Is questing the only way to go to level up?

I feel the same way as you, which is why Im kinda holding off playing atm. THey've said they will remove the VR ranks, question is when and how. Then there'll be a champion gap though, so who knows.

atm, everthing can one-two hit everthing with the right Setup.
i Play v14 tank dk with lot of hp armor/spell armor and still get twohitted from archers, ist just a retarted Balance between offence and deffence

Then you've got something set up wrong.

Playing in 2 of the Campaigns in VR mode and there are more than enough players who take way for than 1 or 2 shots to take down.

Usally i dont die vs 4-5 Players, but still sometimes (if im not in block) i get 2 Hits from Snipe with a dmg from 14-17k
    I have 30k Hp and 32k Armor.

Op quit some time ago, came back recently. First thing he did went to cyriodiil and when killed posted forum topic about "cyriodiil being bad"?

I dont know how much time you spent there on your first "comeback" after break but its natural you might not be in top of your form after break from ESO thus you might be just easy prey for someone who plays ESO all the time (like that sneaky archer).

NOt to mention the kit changes since, the different buff attributes and such as Bug mentions.

Then again, you might as well leave and come back in 2-3 weeks, as things in PVP will be changing and new kit/armour being added :)

As you see from the replies, even v14s get 1 or 2-shooted, so you can't avoid it sometimes. Since v4, I've been leveling my DK exclusively in Cyro and with pledges (now almost v8). It's definitely harder to level up with pvp than with questing, but it's still doable.

From my (relatively limited) experience in Cyro, the following could be useful:

    - Play in small or large groups. Wandering alone at this level can be very frustrating.
    - Make yourself decent crafted sets, till you are able to opt for superb gear.
    - Have a decent amount of health (at least 20k) and focus either on stamina or in magicka, not in both (at least until you get at much higher ranks).
    - Most important: Prefer shields and blocking instead of very high armor. When you suspect there's a stealthy sneaky guy close to you, drop a shield and block. Most of the time you cannot get 1 or 2-shooted when you have a shield on you and you are blocking.

    Cheers

Cyrodil is always that way. Always.

And casual players can't measure up to the hardcore PvP fanatics, no matter what. No, not even when you're at V14... its common to get two shotted before you even know where the ganker is, its just as common to run into some unkillable dragonknight and see all your efforts turn to ashes, or to have a whole enemy assault group pop up from stealth around you...

The trick is to remember that quantity has a quality of its own, and get a group together (and pray the other side doesn't have a bigger group). Then use some teamwork, and you can get some success as well... yes, even as lower level player. Don't try for single combat, rush them with your friends, and hope its enough. Join in for sieges, operate a trebuchet or add your own ranged attacks to the fray, and don't sweat suffering numerous takedowns - just lie there, if your side wins someone will likely have a soul gem to rez you, if not, respawn at the nearest keep and try again elsewhere.

And if you really want to go solo... sneak, sneak, sneak. Stay in stealth as much as you can, explore away from the main keeps and assault routes, cautiously do the PvE dailies, complete scouting missions, etc. Yeah, it takes ages to get anywhere that way... but your chances of not getting ganked also increase nicely. Always a tradeoff... and every so often you'll get stomped anyways. As the french would say, "c'est la guerre" - just shrug, respawn, go elsewhere.

Some days you'll have ill luck, and get rather vexed. Other days you will feel much better. If it was always easy, there would not be that feeling of having done something nifty on the good days...

There's not much you can do about the Champion Point difference, but Battle Levelling is coming to Veteran characters in the next major update. This will mean that players V1+ will be scaled to V14 equivalent just like Lvl 10-49 players already are.

since 1.6 the game is in the most unbalanced I have ever seen it, there is a balance pass coming with the first major update they have said, not sure what or how much is included with that major update but a lot of changes are coming at least that is he perception that Gina and Brian Wheeler leave with maybe it will help.

damages are overall too much. i think its unintended, simply zenimax released 1.6 with champion points and let it be and focus on console. this is the result.

but if you oversee whole changes in game already maded and planned, you can foresee that it will hit pvp too. less counterstrike, more rpg is on the way i suppose. only need to wait a bit. cant imagine that this game catter too much to hardcores at pvp forever.

It sounds like pvp in this game is far more broken than in Destiny. Glad I don't have to deal with it and it's a choice. Sounds like a very bad decision.

ROFL at OP. You thought because you were vr2 you could fight a vr12.....my money is on his gear was far better as were his skills. Granted I have seen level 45s kill vr14s, and that was all based on skill of the player who was level 45. Soooooooo that means what........for you? Practice more, realize you cant play how you want and win. Do those two things and BOOM! you can own people too!

Support roles or in groups, mostly.

Don't expect to be 12 levels below max and mowing things down left and right on the front lines. It's just not realistic, in most cases.

It doesn't mean you can never get in the fight at all, you just have to proceed with more caution and reservation.

You also have to bear in mind, that's just a level to level comparison. That does not account for the fact that many you will go up against are fairly hardcore PvPers and know what they are doing very well.

Take the lower levels to help out, get in the mix a little, and learn what skills, gear, tactics, etc work while earning AP's on the way up. It's no impossible, even 1v1, but it's a whole lot harder than you would think it is.

The good news: in the next major patch, Battleleveling is supposed to make you the equivalent of VR14 in 'medium quality' gear. This will help tremendously, as now, the moment you hit VR1, you effectively lose 13 Battleleveled levels, as only 10-50 is currently battle level enabled.

You probably have the major breach debuff on you which makes the snipes ignore most of your armor.

The gankers often have increased stealth damage + auto-crit from stealth + debuffs with very high weapon damage. This makes some snipes hit for insane high damage numbers.

Unlikely he had anything set up wrong, I too play a tank build and have survived against an entire zerg on me long enough for back up to come, yet I too have been insta killed when minding my own business. A stealth bowman designed for pure damage can 1-2 shot anybody even with capped armor.
I was surprised, its certainly only happened on 2 different occassions but it is possible to basically insta kill tank builds, so if not playing a tank build these situations can be very common.

In a future patch we plan on allowing Veteran Rank players to opt into Battle-leveling if they want to which will help with the power gap. Besides that, the combat team is aware of the disparity between Vet 14 and Vet 1 players and looking to make that less painful.

because clearly they decided to NOT remove veteran ranks. Is that not obvious?

EDIT for clarification: They did release the xp pots now, so veteran ranks can stay in their eyes as people would want to buy xp pots to get through that nightmare faster. Thankfully I was a early adopter and used every means possible to go from vet 1 to vet 14 in a day or so back when a vet level was more than 14mil xp to go from v1 to v14.

All I hear is, I want to be as powerful as a V14 who has been playing the game for a year but I am only V2. ZOS make this happen.

Why? You should be dying to someone 12 level higher than you.

What ZOS should do is make one of the lower pop campaigns have a cap of V7.
