If you were to start a new character...

... what would you do to take advantage of your previous character? (In my case - V7)

So I'm creating a new character that will basically replace my current main and I want to make the most smooth start and get some nice start.

Trait Research - I have around 90% traits finished on completely everything, so I will craft each item with each trait and let the new character research it.
Motif - Buy every motif out there, except Imperial since I have Imperial Edition (oh and maybe except dwemer, just not at the very start).
Ingots/wood - Buy dozens of stacks of more expensive ingots and wood to craft some basic equipment and deconstruct it afterwards to progress faster in the profession tree in order to get hireling asap and start making money back from selling legendary tempers, tannins etc)
Horse - Can share from V7 character, just have to level it up.

What else would you do? Overall you'll have around 400k gold to spend at the start.

I am mainly asking this question to see any ideas and good suggestions that I might've missed. I really want to enjoy the story and quests again since I basically grinded from V1 to V7 and didn't enjoy the quests as much, also been a while since I played the game last time and this is the one and only way to get me back into the game the proper way.

Thanks

Just make gear for the alt. I don't find it necessary to have more than one crafter. My v3 nightblade has maxxed clothing, smithing, and woodworking, so none of my other characters needs to worry about leveling those skills.

If I were to start a new character I would probably quit the game... lol

Honestly, just play. Make use of your other chracter for crafting gear. Make blue set stuff at lv 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, then just as needed for vet. Do zone main stories, dolmens, skyshards and then grind until the next zone.

Closer to the launch . I would make a blue seducer set for each crafting tier and give it to my alt.

My last alt has only used stolen stuff of the racks and still owns everything the non vet solo pve throws at it.
Using any stuff you have will make your alt run pretty trivial. The content was over nerfed and the experience so messed up that it takes quite a bit of effort to not get really over leveled.

What I recommend is actually you trying a self found, crafted or stolen run . It can be fun.

I just started a new character. My V14 has all the blacksmith, clothing, provisioning and wood working skills. I didn't feel like messing with the enchanting or alchemy skills. So I have my new character learning those two skills. I don't want to use skill points on any crafting skills that have been learned .I want to use them mainly for leveling my new character up on different weapon skills. I find the weapon skills I leveled up with my main where great most of the time but now it just seems that other weapon skills would be more useful in the higher rank scenarios . So if my new needs new armor, I switch to my vet and can go to any crafting station and build her whichever armor or weapons will work best for her.I make the best food/drink for her level , my vet gathers alchemy resources from all different areas and I seem to get a ton of glyphs so I just bank everything and my new character picks it up and uses it. Amazing how fast one can level enchanting by deconstructing higher level glyphs ! Anyways that is what I am doing :) .

Thanks for tips, yeah I have a 48lvl NB, 44lvl Templar and I use both of them just for hirelings. My current main is V7 but he carries the name which I want to pass onto the new character, it's just fittng, suiting and I like it overall so therefore I will have to delete this V7 in order to make a new character with the same name.
Anyway, good point about crafting gear for higher lvl, wonder why I haven't thought of that, lol. I was only aware of making gear for 5-18lvl, then gearing myself up on my own without using any alt, but yeah better to craft some nice set using my v7.

    This.

Don't bother with making multiple crafters unless you're hell bent on having X of certain crafting on toon A, and Y of a certain crafting on toon B.

I have new characters (love alts) and get my crafting maxed (except enchanting because that takes forever) and do research (except nirnhoned, too expensive).

What I would do though, rather than craft gear for decon, would be just let the alt decon any high level drops your main gets - levels up crafting fairly quickly that way.

I understand what you guys mean, but I am not starting an alt. This chararcter I am about to start will be my main and the other ones will go away, so that's why reason why I intend to max all 3 professions, anyway all of my characters have maxed out professions.

Anyway, back to my question, lol. Any ideas to make a new character (now alt, later on it'll be my main) have a fresh, good and easy start? Such as a couple things I've mentioned in the original post?

Epona222, exactly, that is what I did one time. I've had some V1+ drops to deconstruct so I handed it over to my alt, that deconstructed it and gained lots of exp.

But now I can't seem to remember wether my MAIN crafted lots of gear and then gave it to my ALT to deconstruct it or that I gave the ingots to my alt to gear craft stuff for himself and deconstruct it. But as far as I know, you'll get more exp for decon. when you use other characters' items so I might've deconstructed weapons that my main crafted, yea that might be it.

Don't make and decon stuff on the same character, the inspiration you get for that is abysmal.

Make gear on your current high level crafter and give it to your new character to decon for best results :)

I have around seven characters, but I've no method to any of them. Just wanted to try out different characters.

Of course, I do tend to favor playing a Khajiit.

Oh of course another source of goodies to decon is stealing weapons and armor that is out in the world (on racks or tables, not from containers though as that gives poor inspiration)

If it is all about the name, there are a dozen ways to get the same name with ESO naming system. Try that befoe deleting so much progress in crafting

I wouldn't make all traited items for research. You can find a lot of them from drops.

Just the armor would be 7 pieces x 3 types of armor x 8 traits, so 168 inventory slots.

It's a pity that you need to use the exact same name, otherwise I'd say keep the V7 as a crafter, as you've already done a lot of work on them.

Are you sure you have to use the same name? I feel like you could cleverly get around it. For instance, I had a character named Bill-Clinton and I wanted to remake him (but keep the other as well) so I just changed his name to Bill-C (capital i) inton and 99% of the time you can't tell the difference.

Kudos to you for wanting to start another "main" character. I don't have patience to level every single skill a second time around.

As for me? I'd rather have a crafting alt and a "main" than a "main" that could do everything. In that situation you already have an alt for crafting - so I would just worry about combat skills and whatever other crafts you don't have on your crafting character. I wish I had made a crafting character separate from my main when I first started. Would have made leveling skills easier by having more skill points to invest in things. Instead of wasting them on crafts which I could have had an alt doing the whole time.

    Just my viewpoint.

mtwiggz and yeah, you're right. What I meant was that I will level up my crafting only in order to get to 50 faster, I just might only invest points into reducing research time and getting more from deconstructing. Anyway, I'll just craft myself a 5lvl gear that will suffice untill 18lvl. And as for 26lvl I will make purple set. Basically I will line up my new main's way so that I can purely focus on enjoying quests once again, achievements, the game itself and just all other things I didn't focus on before. My head was just deep into crafting.

Also, it is weird for me to come back to my main after like 6 months or so cause I can't remember what my character is supposed to be like, I can't remember the choices I made in quests, I have no memory of anything on this character, it just feels distant and strange. And now that there's more new stuff in the game I am eager to play from the very start.

Oh, and it's worth mentioning that this character was just a grindmachine from V1 - V7. So basically I was just clicking through quests and that is what I hate. After almost a year of playing, I might finally enjoy the game for what it truly is.
