Character Deletion Cooldown

The limit is per day, so with luck you can tough it out somehow.

Arise thread. It is NOT one day.

As a player who just returned, I've run into this. I want to redo almost all of my characters, and all 8 slots were full. Sure, I need to read on changes, and sort inventory. So, I've been back about 3 days now, and deleted 2 chars on day 1, and one char on day 2. I like the change for the stated reason - bot control.

But this timer is going to cause a bit of rage with players coming back on the pay changes. It would be nice if even ONE delete slot would refresh per day. I craft, and waiting to get research rolling on the new guys would be painful. Thankfully, those were my first three I did!

I agree with Rainsage completely. I also play many characters and sometimes decide a different path is more appropriate. I can see a few reasons for having a limit, but it seems like poor design to me.

Oh for heaven's sakes, it's free to play now.

I like lots of characters. I used to go to the movies a lot, so I figured cutting a couple of movies per month would be a decent trade for a subscription.

I wanted more characters. I got a second account. And a second subscription. I kept both subscriptions.

I find it really hard to be sympathetic for folks who want something that is available, if they would pay for it.

As to the "play how you want" I am NOT a min-maxer. I use the abilities that make sense and come out of role playing.

So far all this works for me.

Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Funny how some people insist on their point of view and how they play the game is correct and how others play it is wrong or just silly.

To those I say...bet some stuff you do on a regular basis that you think is common sense others see as ridiculous too.

If this isn't an issue then it wouldn't be coming up over and over again.

If there is absolutely NO reason, None to justify deleting characters then why are more than one, two....a few or maybe a lot of people doing it and running into the problem? Who are we to judge how someone plays the game?

While the main reason it was implemented solves a greater evil that doesn't mean leaving a lesser evil is okay.

I think they just need to allow in game character re-customization in some format...for new players coming to the game experimenting with names, classes, factions, races, etc...if they get caught having to wait a day just to create their character they may just move on.

For me it seems common sense that in MMO's, especially a genre where people roleplay characters and will be staring at them for a long time...to allow people to play with customization without penalties.

I believe they are working on a barber shop already...not sure what it will cover but seems like it would be a solution to most of the complaints.

A game that advertises letting you play however you want limits you from deleting and starting over with different character because you're unhappy with the one you created. There's something wrong with that. Just because it's not an issue for YOU don't want mean it isn't a valid complaint. It's frustrating to me too, and I wouldn't know how to not even if I wanted to. I juat, like many others, am new to it and started with multiple characters trying them out and them decided I didn't like some and wanted to start over.

Hope they at least patch it so we can change appearance post-charaxter creation.

You're essentially saying that everyone else should play the game by your standards. The game is supposed to be played however the player wants. If they like to play with different races and classes and tweak them and such, who are you to say that's not just as valid a play style as your own? Is supposed to be about choice.

Heh, you and me both @newtinmpls you and me both. Well, except I no longer have my subscription on my second account. I play those characters far less than the ones on my main account, and I'm doing any trait research on them, so it made sense to drop the sub for that account.

The character deletion limit was put in place to stop gold sellers/farming bots and their never ending spam in zone chat. I was shocked Zenimax could so effectively shut the gold sellers down almost over night so I don't want to see the 3 character limit revoked or loosened up to allow more character deletions. If you'd been here for the early days gold seller zone chat spam fest you'd be happy the limit is in place too. The faming bots made questing difficult as trains of templar bots would appear and kill the dungeon boss or quest objective NPC, farming bots were teleporting around harvesting all the resource nodes and the spam...it never ended.

Lifting the deletion limit is a seriously bad idea and would likely result in a flood of new farming bots/gold sellers. No thank you. Never let those days return Zenimax I beg of you.

I understand that, but there has to be another way. Especially on consoles, we can't really hide behind alternate accounts. So I wouldn't imagine it would be a problem like on PC.

A timer would be nice but Zos isn't exactly on top of their game in providing basic information. Not sure what the OP mans by this being new as character deletion has been limited for about 6 months.

There might be another way, but until it can be found, the character deletion limit was a wonderfully effective way to stop bots. Until a better way can be found to combat the problem, the current solution should stay in place.

It's not just about hiding behind alternate accounts. It's much more about this process that used to happen all the time on PC:
    1. Create new character
    2. Teleport to friend in Riften
    3. Do quick easy fetch-quest in town
    4. Put gold from quest in bank
    5. Delete character
    6. Go back to step 1

Being able to delete an unlimited number of characters enables gold farming. Having a limit on the number of deletes prevents that.

The only legitimate reasons to need to delete more characters than the current limit are all around not being happy with the way your character turned out. The correct solution to that is not to allow more/unlimited deletes - it's to allow you to make changes to your character post-creation in order to fix whatever it is you don't like about them.

If you are really struggling with character creation then i think your problem is bigger than 24 hour cooldown on deletions

However if you really want to perfect a character, download the pts, the eu and the na clients. 24 character slots
