Best Set Armor for Magicka Character

Currently I'm running four pieces of Seducer and four pieces of Twilight's Embrace for the boost to spell damage, and I use the Atronauch Mundus stone. I'm wondering if there is a better set armor combination out there for Magicka-based characters?

Since you're using Atronach mundus (me too!), it sounds like sustain is important to you. Assuming you're using a Destro or Resto staff, I would go with 4 pc Warlock (Neck, both Rings, Hood), 5 pc Seducer and 2 pc Torug's Pact. If you need even MORE regen, replace 2 pc Torug's with 2 pc Eyes of Mara. If the VR12 Warlock rings cost too much, just farm the VR1 versions yourself or buy them at a guild store. It only took me half an hour to find 2 of them at that delve in the middle of Stonefalls, can't remember the name. Enchant all jewelry with spell cost reduction.

If you're rocking Dual Wield or 1H + Shield, then I would add the 5th Warlock piece to the above (Breeches or Robe)... it does help sometimes. I would only use Warlock pieces that are Hood, Robe or Breeches because their trait is Infused. You'll want to craft your small armor pieces with Divines trait to maximize the Atronach regen.

I'm only level 21, so VR gear is out for now. I was thinking more along the lines of a leveling set. I dropped the Torug's when I found Twilight's Embrace as it adds spell crit and more spell damage; I had been using five pcs Seducer and three pcs Torug. I am using dual Destruction staff; Dunmer Dragonknight.

Another approach is to use seducer 5 and torugs 3 set while changing mundus to apprentice forspell penetration.

seducer will give you regen and magicka while 3 torugs will give you spell damage - health.
For leveling i think this is best imo. Also consider having 1-2 heavy armor pieces on you reinforced(chest - head or legs)

I was thinking spell crit was more important than spell damage, since the more you can crit usually means more damage overall- which was why I figured Twilight's Embrace was better.

Until I can get to the Magnus set, I think I may change to five pieces of Seducer for the 8% spell reduction, and return to three pieces of Torgus. I am currently running four pieces of Light and three pieces of heavy armor until I can get my Light armor to level 38 to take advantage of the five piece passive.

I was looking for crafted set ideas, since it's tough to rely on always getting set drops. In fact, sitting at level 21 right now I don't think I've seen a single piece of set gear dropped in any of my quests... do they drop from special bosses?

I make a lot of armor for people and the magicka users mainly go for 5 Seducer and 4 magnus. Most magicka if they use Torugs it's only for the 2 item bonus to Spell Damage. If you wanted the 3 sets to combo you could go 4 seducer, 2 magnus and 2 torugs.

With the spell damage to duel wield being higher than staff right now you could also consider 5 Seducer, 2 magnus and 2 Torugs(2 1h weapons).

While a better question than "what set for class xxx", it is still not entirely possible to answer it. It depends completely on your style of play.

If you base play around mobility/sustain, then you need to use sets that primarily cater to resource regeneration. A good example is a healer - while large heals are nice, it is much more preferable to always be able to heal. Fortifying magicka regeneration will achieve this better than going for maximum heal value by stacking spell damage.

If you base play around large hit & run tactics, you need to maximize spell damage while maintaining a magicka pool that allows you to burst output your intended combo. Since you then have either obliterated your opponent or run away, regeneration is less important - you will have time.

Both styles are viable in game, to more or less extent. Your sets need to reinforce what suits your personal style best. Since you have apparently just started the game, your first step is to find your playstyle before you try to identify the best suited sets.

Sometimes it pays off to not follow the mainstream suggestions and thereby being forced into a playstyle that you can't really pull off.

You can get Warlock set pieces level 15-22 then not again until VR1. I'm currently using level 20 Warlock jewelry with the hood and robe on my level 24 character.

Crits are good, and you want Crits. However, once you get to a certain level of Criticals, no need to go any higher. For example, your going get a Critical strike more often than not at 50% chance. Inner Light from the Mages Guild increases your Criticals, so get that skill and level it.

The other thing to remember, Critical Damage is based on Base Damage. So, the higher the base damage, the higher the critical damage is too.

All my casters run 5 pieces of Seducer. Then I mix in other things. Warlock is good if you can find it, Bands of Syrbane will give you the same Regen for two pieces that you get with 3 pieces of Warlock (talking Jewlery here) and get some Blue or Purple Regen Glyphs (or even Kuta if you can afford it) to put on the Warlock or Syrbane makes that even better. But, if you can't get Warlock or Syrbane (Bands of Syrbane are L30 to L35 and cheap at 200, Warlock is expensive at any level)) then use Spell Cost Reduction Jewelery in all 3 slots. It is better than Spell Power over all in that application.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
