Q: What was your favorite part about creating ESO?

A: (from Paul Sage, Creative Director)
[...] As for a system, however, I think my favorite was in working with crafting. Our first pass and even our second pass just didn't go well. We didn't get what we wanted and the days were moving like the second hand on a clock face. Basically, we just really rolled up our sleeves and said, time is running out and everyone is worried - let's just start-over completely, make a really big, detailed and awesome crafting system. We just have to get this iteration right the first time. No pressure. A lot of people came together to work on it, the pressure, the manic nature of getting it running was a lot of fun.

At first, reading this got me quite confused. Nobody in their right mind would describe the current crafting system as big, detailed and awesome, right? The only valid explanation is that we are still in "second pass" and that a brand new crafting system will be released. So excited!

When is this new awesome system coming @ZOS_GinaBruno? :)

I think you seriously misunderstand what Sage said .. unless your comments are sarcastic or ironic, in which case I entirely agree with you. :)

Sadly I can't find it at the moment but ZOS also said pre-release that their crafting system was "deep and meaningful" .. they scoffed at WOW's "press a button then go have a meal while you craft a million things in one go" feature, ZOS "deep and meaningful" alternative is a system where you sit have press one button over and over and over again.

Don't forget the months of waiting for research.
    Now That's deep and meaningful.

    Sarcastic, me? Never!

It's quite a shame that ESO will remain stuck with this overly simplistic system. Too many games have done it better.

Thanks for this link! The fact Paul Sage is still in ZoS and working on anything is enough! Great!

    You deconstruct stuff. For experience.
You mine stuff. For no experience.
You smelt stuff. For no experience.
    You craft stuff. For experience.

Deep and Meaningful Crafting system confirmed. You don't get Blacksmith experience from mining ore. You don't get blacksmith experience from smelting Ingots.

Odd crafting system that increases your skill when you working with crafting and not farming eh? Or that crafting should not effect your exp towards level and other skills. Only crafting effects your crafting experience.

I fail to see why this would be wrong. A more bigger and detail crafting system yes. A new system where any mouse clicks give you exp all over...no thank you.
