Level 37 Blacksmith Question

I've been crafting my own armour and some for some guildies, as well, on Xbox One since the beginning, only using quest armor when it is way better than anything I can craft, and am wondering how to get the Dwarven Oil and the other improvement items? Out of this whole time of crafting I have only ever gotten 5 Dwarven Oil from deconstruction. Is this because the higher leveled armors are the ones that give the good stuff? I've just started crafting out of Dwarven ingots, and I'd like to be ready to craft high quality items for the later levels. How can I increase my drops for these improvement items?

You deconstruct rare or higher tiered items for rare or higher tiered items. It is only natural.

Ahhhhh, that makes sense. So to get a purple, I need to deconstruct a purple?

It is MORE likely to get a purple. But I mean I get more Oil from Steel than I get from Iron... and sometimes I get Oil from Iron greens.

BUT of course I deconstruct 200 Steel ingots worth of steel armor at a time...

Yeah, I like to go farming mobs that drop a lot of gear, then go into the city when my inventory is full and deconstruct the lot. It's how I keep my blacksmithing skill up.

Hirelings too; get them at the highest level that you can 'afford' the passive. Also gather raw materials and refine them. I've gotten yellow tempers from even level 1 materials.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

You are nicely advancing your blacksmith, grats. The extract passives (name varies for each profession) increase probabilities. Best source for improvements is from refining. Here are improvement material droprate results from my latest refinements. With points in Keen Eye, farming ore gets much easier. In fact you should eventually open every passive of your craft(s).

When decostructing gear, the level does not matter, but quality does. When you deconstruct e.g. blue gear, you have a chance to get blue improvement material.

Also, should I keep my old mats like iron ingots and steel, even when I'm far beyond that? Is it profitable to sell high quality crafted armor? I figure as of now on console, there is no established crafters, I wouldn't imagine.

    Except for the PC transfers.
Personally, I used to keep lower mats to help new guildies but space can be a problem. 1-50 crafting armor is a bonus, not necessary really.
You can make some money at vet levels, particularly 14s but I would say the most consistent profit is from consumables: food, enchants, potions.

@Ventimus: Crafting in general is so easy to level, that everyone does it for themselves. Crafting as a way to make gold doesn't really exist in this game until you reach the highest levels. Max level tri-pots sell quite well for high level PVP. As do a number of other things like food and armor.

U need to refine raw materials to refined, for example 10 raw ore will give you 1 roll which is random, can be honing stone, dwarven oil, grain solvent or tempering alloy you get iron ingot, and armor / weapon trait items, but it will only be worth refining when you have the proper skill points in the blacksmithing tree, same goes for wood and cloth/leather.

Once you have the proper points your rolls will be effective, it doesnt matter what area the raw materials are from 10 will yeild one roll, the higher the quality doesnt necessarily mean the higher the chance at loot.

Of course deconning armors can yeild tempers but you lose so much to yeild it i think deconning is meant more for inspiration gain than for getting upgrade items

, and when you improve your items to a better quality the number needed decreases with the proper skill points in the tree, so when it is full you only need 2 honing 3 oil 4 solvent and 8 alloy to upgrade, which ofcourse gets you the most for your time/materials/refining rolls
