Altering Trait and Armor Type Through Crafting Must Become an Option

Mission: For players to be happy with their end game gear and build.

Currently: There are numerous sets that are considered to be bad. Even good items can be bad depending on the trait or armor type that is rolled onto them.

Small Goal: Allow players to alter the armor type of the undaunted 2 piece sets. Allow players to alter the traits of the undaunted 2 piece sets and master weapons.

Large Goal: Allow players to change the armor type and traits of all items.

Dissent 1: Players need to work for the items they want.

Answer 1: Players do work for the items they want and all too often are never rewarded.

Example 1.1: One friend has gotten around 10 masters restoration staff, none of them precise, and they have done vdsa countless times. This has made them not want to play the game because they did work for something, but didn't get it and wont get it in the foreseeable future.

Example 1.2: One friend cannot get a heavy valkyn skoria helmet. After many attempts at the helmet they have gotten a single one and it is medium armor. They believe that a heavy version of the helmet would open up many opportunities for them to try new things in raids, but they can't do it.

Both of these players have been seriously playing eso. They have the year loyalty pet. They have earned the items they want, but haven't received them yet.

Dissent 2: Game balance would be thrown off.

Answer 2: Currently game balance is thrown off. You can get one shot in pvp and people are pulling far higher dps than they used to in 1.5. Allowing players to change set item armor types and traits can't be much more unbalanced than what currently exists.

Example 2.1: Imagine if the desert rose set could be heavy armor and reinforced. It would create new theory crafting and allow players to try something new, but not something stronger than what currently exists.

Example 2.2: Look at the 3 undaunted sets that came out. There was a ton of theory crafting that has gone into how to use them effectively and none of them are broken despite being able to be any armor type or trait. This is the same for crafted sets.

Conclusion: Armor type and trait changes would be a way to make players happy with the rewards that they get and would open up new options to everyone without being detrimental to game balance.

Please feel free to comment.

@ZOS_GinaBruno please pass this along.

Don't tank

"In future content we will probably adjust this model somewhat (The BOP model). It's definitely nice to be able to find a cool item that you don't need and trade it to someone who can't wait to get their hands on it." - Wrobel

This. This I want. I'd also like to see style changes of armor. Even if anyone sees trait and armor type changes as game-breaking, there's no way they can say the same about a cosmetic change like that.

Tamriel Unlimited was a mistake. One Tamriel was a bigger mistake

I agree with this and I'd like to add one more thing to it. The appearance of these aforementioned items might also bother players. I know its just appearances, but to be honest I like Elder Scrolls in large part because it isn't as flashy as other games. While the pauldrons are large, they're not like the 1940's Truck Fenders that they wear in WoW and other fantasy games. I like that about ESO. What annoys the hell out of me is that I don't want to wear a Fallout Fire Ant helmet and feel like I'm forced to. I propose that through crafting we might be able to convert our Valkyn Skoria to another style of our choosing (such as Imperial, or Daedric, or Bosmer, or whatever theme it is that is important to your character). I know some people might not agree with that, and I totally understand. The problem is that we find ourselves in a position where if we want to be competitive we have to make our characters look a certain way whether we like it or not... and this I don't like. I can only see this progression getting worse in the future if they don't implement a system where we can pimp our style in our own way.

The cosmetic changes makes sense. It is something done in other games. I think transmogrification is the word for such a change in diablo 3

Yes please, enough of this boredom which has us farming specific traits.

After 150-200 runs of DSA I've still haven't been lucky enough to get the masters sword with defending trait.

Changing style should definitely be implemented in some way, crown store perhaps?

This has been brought up before with various suggestions of how it could work.
