The more I see from people NOT wanting chat box for console the more I think it is all desperate PC players trying to salvage a community that is leaving in droves because of all the bots on PC lol.
There is NO reason for console not to have a chat box. I mean it is not like console players are asking for the REMOVAL of the voice chat. If that was the case I could understand people not wanting to see that.
But it is childish "or desperate" for anyone to NOT want people to be able to enjoy the game on console.
Funny how most of the "No chat box" TROLLS are always dropping that one liner..
"If you want a chat box come join us on PC"
lmao ..
Sad..

Well I doubt it will get addressed. Its not like they haven't thought about this. At some point in the past, someone said "what about people with hearing impairment or are deaf, they'd need text chat"? And someone else has said "nah, don't bother, too much hassle".

That argument might carry more weight if there wasn't already a PC version of the game with text chat. It's not like those who want to play the game but have hearing issues can't play it.
as a Raid leader in both aspects of the game I require a VoIP at all times, Microphone is strongly requested but not required. What IS required is me being able to quickly and reliably being able to make calls adjust the Raid group and complete tasks with minimal roadblocks. By having someone in the raid that can not hear me, thus requiring me to stop and type will inevitably hold the group back and cause wipes.
This is why MMOs should never be put on console. Consoles just do not have the same capabilities as PC.
However let's face it, this is an MMORPG, which may be uncharted territory for most Console players, especially those that are exclusive to console...as an MMO End-Game is a big deal, in fact most would argue (and I agree) that End Game / Hard-Core PvP is the entire point of playing an MMO.

Yes most of the Vet dungeons and low scale willy nilly PvP don't require much on your part thus no need for VoIP communication. But let's see you try and complete Vet Dragonstar Arena or Sanctum Ophidia with just trying to type mid fight, or High-end pvp when you are deep in the battle and everyone needs to make calls about incoming or sudden deaths that need to be adjusted for accordingly.
Some raid leaders may be willing to do these things with out requiring VoIP, however I am not one of them nor have I ever been...either use VoIP or get out of my group, sorry but that's how I roll . Text chat is all fine and dandy, however Console players...you will be extremely happy about your built in voice chat come later levels.
So they are responsible for your purchasing choices, is that right?
Here's the thing. You want to communicate. Sweet. That's dandy. Unfortunately, you have a physical disability that prevents that from happening via normal methods. Okay. That's understandable. But why is anyone other than you responsible for overcoming your shortcomings?
...

Would you buy a CD player and then *** to the company that you can't hear it cause you are deaf? No. Why? Because that's *** ***. There are some things you can't do and, yes, it is unfortunate for you, it's not other people's responsibility to cater to you and your disability.

Come on Ms. Coulter, you aren’t dumb and you aren’t shallow. So why are you continually using a word like the R-word as an insult?
I’m a 30 year old man with Down syndrome who has struggled with the public’s perception that an intellectual disability means that I am dumb and shallow. I am not either of those things, but I do process information more slowly than the rest of you. In fact it has taken me all day to figure out how to respond to your use of the R-word last night.
I thought first of asking whether you meant to describe the President as someone who was bullied as a child by people like you, but rose above it to find a way to succeed in life as many of my fellow Special Olympians have.
Then I wondered if you meant to describe him as someone who has to struggle to be thoughtful about everything he says, as everyone else races from one snarkey sound bite to the next.
Finally, I wondered if you meant to degrade him as someone who is likely to receive bad health care, live in low grade housing with very little income and still manages to see life as a wonderful gift.
Because, Ms. Coulter, that is who we are – and much, much more.
After I saw your tweet, I realized you just wanted to belittle the President by linking him to people like me. You assumed that people would understand and accept that being linked to someone like me is an insult and you assumed you could get away with it and still appear on TV.
I have to wonder if you considered other hateful words but recoiled from the backlash.
Well, Ms. Coulter, you, and society, need to learn that being compared to people like me should be considered a badge of honor.
No one overcomes more than we do and still loves life so much.
Come join us someday at Special Olympics. See if you can walk away with your heart unchanged.

Absolutely voice is required for end-game content if you are at all competitive. I have my own 10-person vent server just in case for that reason. I much prefer text chat if I'm just trying to trade or talking to people in zone/tells. The best thing about having both available is that it give you flexibility to choose your form of communication in different environments.

This post is in regards to DEAF/HEARING IMPAIRED PS4/XBOX ONE players....which is a post that has NOT been created yet.
What about the deaf and hearing impaired? Are they not allowed to play Elder Scrolls Online because the game is restricted to only those that can communicate verbally with other players? That's pretty pathetic...if that is the case. So what's an excellent reason for implementing TEXT CHAT? How about your player base that can't speak/hear? Do you not want them to buy your game? Final Fantasy XIV and Neverwinter already have an EXCELLENT text chat system...so do not say that it does not work or people won't be able to read the chat box....when it's already been PROVEN to work!
Ok.. I HAVE to ask..
I have neither an XBox nor a Playstation. Last time I saw one, it did not come with a keyboard to input text. Inputting each letter thru a console interface would be scrolling up-down-right-left and selecting each letter in 5=6 row words banks sounds worse than Chinese water torture.
How do other games on those platforms handle chat boxes?
It is very frustrating when you see people who do not have any disabilities say that they don't even want players with disabilities to have a chat box option or that they'd kick them out of their raid/guild due to a slow down in progression. What is wrong with some of you? Seriously. You do realize that there are some players with hearing disabilities that would probably help you out way more in a raid than some of your players that can hear...if you just took 2 seconds out of your busy schedule to explain the fight in text...
I hope you never get injured...or you just might be the one the guild is kicking to the curb.

Instead of typing mid fight....
Why not just explain to the player through text in advance what to expect in the fight? And if changes need to be made based on the fight's phases....then can't you just assign that player to follow someone else...so that when they switch what theyre doing he/she switches at the same time?
This sounds more like people with little toleration for others needs...as opposed to something that can easily be resolved.

Is this your first MMO? Or have you been in and hard-core progression guilds / content before? It's perfectly ok if you haven't or if this is your first major MMO.
I am not saying I wouldn't take the time to try and type it out. But what it all comes down to is the inherent problem with High-End raiding or PvP....

I have been a raid leader since Ultima Online's early days, there are so many variables during fights it's ridiculous and with the ability to quickly and reliably communicate and take control of a situation (i.e VoIP) a competent raid leader can change a wipe scenario into a recovery and win. It's as simple as that...
That is why I require it and always will.

No...I also led 3 guilds in World of Warcraft for 5 years (I played for 9 years), Guild Wars for 2 years, and Final Fantasy for a year...so I think it's safe to say this isn't my first MMO. But thank you for attempting to hurl empty insults at me when I never once attacked you. I simply stated common sense things you could do to integrate everyone into the raid......like explain the fights in advance and assign players to raid leaders who know the fight's various phases....you know...simple things. But some guild leaders prefer to kick people out that don't fit into their mold...I understand. I guess I'm able to adjust to more players play styles than most guild leaders...and I probably have a lot more patience. You seem to prefer going through people like water if they aren't perfect....and I prefer to invest more into them to accomplish long term goals....to each their own.

Sorry, this argument doesn't fly for me due to a couple of reasons:
- If you have a console but not a PC, you'd have to invest in one. Each player in that situation would have to buy a PC, instead of one company taking the trouble of getting text chat in their game, which they already do for other versions.
- If you want the console version because your friends are playing on console, being able to use text on the PC version isn't much of an answer.
I admit I didn't even remember the case for hearing impaired people when I learned there was no text chat on consoles. But I find it weird that so many people's reaction is "you're hearing impaired, deal with it" rather than "hot dang, I didn't think of that... it really should be addressed".
And it's not just about fitting into a mold, I have pain painstakingly taken my time to train players in this game that never PvE'd in any game before and just PvP'd in this one. I have sat for 30+ minutes in a normal vet dungeon between bosses to help them and talk to them about builds..or show them how to properly spell weave, plus many other things. I then took groups of those same players straight through all the end game content.
However when it comes to Progression raiding it takes a better than normal player, guild, and raid leader. I have always preferred Elitist Progression Raiding over normal casual play. For most it's not their cup of tea as it tends to be more demanding and has a higher chance of burning folk out.
