With the release of the console version was this taken away from the game? If it wasn't I have been unable to eat a single reagent to learn the first trait.

    It is probably a bug. What I would do is look up the reagents' traits online and pair them up in potions, this way the effects should get unlocked when you use another reagent of the same effect.

    Can you eat foods or potions? You do the Reagents the same way. At least that is the way you should be able to.
    Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    I figured it out once I got home and started playing again. I just needed to realize there aren't as many reagents in eso as was the case in previous elder scrolls games.
