When should you start 12 mans?

I'm currently a healer on my main and came back to ESO after f2p. It's been a long boring grind but i'm about to hit v14 and can easily heal through all vet 4 man dungeons i've been through (haven't done vet DSA yet though). what's the criteria for trying 12 mans?

the only other major "raiding" experience i have is in WoW where i'm used to 40 mans and 15 man pugs.

I suggest that you completely separate Vet Dungeons and Trials in your mind.... the difference is profound.

^^ this make a big difference.... a lot of PVE focussed guilds have a designated 'Training Run' once or twice a week to prepare people for leaderboard & hardmode attempts. I have completed all trials and I still like tagging along in these training runs with different guilds from time to time.... I like seeing how different people handle different mechanics and meet new team mates for end game content.

Once you've run a few Training Runs, you will most likely want to make adjustments to your gear, skills or rotations, then you will be ready for the real deal.....

OR you get lucky like me and get picked up in Zone chat by a guild "LF1M Heals AA" and get a complete on your first attempt at a trial, despite only having a vague idea of what you are supposed to be doing

i can appreciate the difference between 12s and 4 mans. is there a 12 man that would be the "easiest" to do to learn and to get geared up? or is the gear only a reward for completing the trial and not from boss drops?

my experiences come from WoW where in the first year or so after release, you would gear up by doing 5 mans/15 man dungeons (mostly in pugs) and then progress by completing 40 man raid dungeons in order of difficulty or release (ie. molten core->blackwing lair->AQ etc. etc.). the boss drops would help you gear up for later content.

i'm a year behind everyone so i just need to get my head around end game in this game.

Easiest trial is probably Aetherian Archive from what I've run. I do have one suggestion though. Find a group where the leader can be as concise as possible in their explanation of what needs to be done if you're a first time player. The two Hel Ra attempts I've done the leader rambled on and on in TS in regards to the mechanics. In the time he took, I looked up what happens with the final boss and knew what to look out for.

If you are AD NA then we have a run happening tonight at 7:30 EST @thesunalsorises
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

Difficulty is Aetherian Archive < Hel Ra Citadel < Sanctum Ophidia (not talking about hardmodes here)

The only good trial to get good PvE gear is Vet DSA though. At least for tanks (Footman set) and healers (Healer set)

ok, thanks. i'm running 5/5 healer and 5/5 necromancer on my main healing setup atm. but my ultimate goal anyway is to just experience more of this game and have fun
