Feature Suggestions For an ESO Companion Mobile App?

OK I just read this again, and as a mobile system analyst of one of the biggest site in Canada, i'll try to pitch in ;)

    1. As previously mentioned, having live streaming data to the app is a big NO-NO. This means developing a specific API that a mobile device can access at any time. This also means impacting the megaserver client connections which, most likely, would be detrimental. Best way to go around this is to develop a separate gateway for these data which presumably will be refreshed periodically. Like every 24 hr, or 12 hr or something. This means a lot more resources to work on.
    2. Some feature requested like reading lore-books and notes, are HUGE data. with mobile, we don't want people to download a 1GB app. Space is a luxury. This means big datas like Lore-Books would be cached in the server, and only ones the account has discovered is downloaded to the device. Then see point #1 above again.
    3. Gated by a separate server means stuff that can pro-actively sync back to the server becomes complicated. Stuff like changing skill bar, or feeding your mount, etc... Meaning, the stuff that goes back and "write" back to ZOS, not just stuff the app "reads" from ZOS. I personally prefer having lag improved than adding stuff like this, back to point #1.
    4. Chat is the only exception feature that I can see (and must anyway) to be implemented directly to the megaservers. A bunch of text is significantly a lot more compact than skill bar information.... I can totally see this happening with no detrimental effect to server.
    5. I'm personally against this, but with enough feature, I can see how this warrants TESO+ membership only. It is a possible revenue source and I'd rather have this than having ADS inside the app...................
    6. Crown store is definitely do-able as it basically a separate instance and a "read-only" function, where purchases is not required to have a live connection to the megaserver.
    7. Crafting is a big hurdle too because of one single component: the by-chance logic. Some function in crafting consist of percentage chances.... this means, whatever the result of the "lottery" is calculated and recorded on the server side... meaning it's most likely need to be connected to the megaserver too...

That's all I can think of for now. Sorry to rain on your parade, but in summary, unless ZOS put some serious resources to develop both the app and the infrastructure, they're not going to be able to pull it off WITHOUT affecting the lag issue.......

(or they can go cheapskate and just simply build an app to plugs directly to the megaserver and ignores the tear of the players with +999 ping....)

Honestly @Davadin, I don't concern myself with what would or wouldn't cause lag. My perspective is "we want this. Figure it out."

I'm pretty sure consoles have second screen capabilities that don't necessarily have to hit the servers. It's done locally. Client side. PC would need to have a PC client. I could see that being built into the launcher. A small external program to communicate with your phone over wifi.

ah but i can't help to to try to figure it out... mobile is my thing :D

and oh i didnt think of having the apps connects locally via bluetooth or wifi.... that's a whole other ball game.

I want to see an ability to list trades via mobile.

I can assume I'm loosing tons of gold by not being able to put up fresh listings while on the go.

Trades, you mean like selling in the Guild Store? I totally think that should be an option as long as you log out in an Inn (or after you 'rent a room' in an Inn).

yea, Upgrading Riding Skills. I totally agree, but only if you're logged out in a town... or have rented a room in an Inn (something I suggested in another post we be allowed to do)

On the xbox app you can chat with your friends even when they are offline. This would be great for ESO in general, to have private messages, friends and guild rosters and announcements in a mobile app.

Also the state of the campaigns, so that you can set it up to get notified if you are needed in Cyrodiil.

    NO actual gameplay. View only.

    To play, you go online.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

This is a really extreme and massive mobile app suggestion - I do not think half of this is even possible. It would require that the phone somehow logs into your character. But you wouldn't be able to see the world because phones do not have that kind of graphics power or RAM. It could get your character killed depending on where you are at.

There are third-party mobile apps for Second Life, for example, BUT you log into your toon and the area is black. You can walk right off of platforms or into the drink, and you would NEVER know. But in SL, you cannot die from that. In ESO, you can.

I think we should be more realistic and keep it down to lore books, account management, and simple things like that.

TL;DR: This massive mobile app is just not possible on phones. Too much memory and requires your character to be logged into the world (which could get them killed depending on where you logged out.) Another game, Second Life, has such an app created, but it has you playing the game blind.!

Why in the world shouldn't SS work while in combat? We suddenly stop needing to see group chat messages? We could even offload our damage output there to reduce screen clutter. There are some inexpensive tablet arms that connect your tablet to your monitor. This would be a really awesome thing!

I totally think we should be able to craft and sort our inventory using the app IF we log out while we are in a town @malicc211b14_ESO . This ties in conceptually to my Expanded Rested Bonus concept that would have where you log out be important. Seeking an Inn or your home (when they come) would be what players do at the end of a play session. If not that, setting up camp or simply laying a bedroll down would be an alternative. ZOS could even include the banker and merchant assistant as a part of these mechanics. I could see those being tied into whether or not you can access certain App features. Out in the wild no where near a town and log out? Well, if you have the Banker, you can access your bank with your app.

Having the ability to mess with inventory on the go would be AMAZING!

Does this fall too much into "gameplay" @newtinmpls ?
