Blacksmithing Questions

Hi guys, I just had a couple questions regarding smithing and I was hoping you guys could help me out..

FIrst, do all items in one tier (iron, steal, etc) net you the same amount of XP? For example, does crafting an Iron Sword give you the same amount of XP that creating an Iron Chest Piece does? Are there items that have greater ratios of XP Gathered versus Mats used? I am basically looking for the most efficient use of materials and method of leveling it up.

Second, I was told that weapons and armor you find on racks or tables do not provide any materials when deconstructed, nor do they provide any money when sold. Do they still provide XP when deconstructed? I see the XP bar glow when I deconstruct them, but cant tell if its actually giving me anything.

The most effective way to level blacksmithing is to craft daggers (best ratio of inspiration to materials used), and trade them with another player to deconstruct (you earn more inspiration for deconstructing an item crafted by another player than for deconstructing an item dropped by a mob, and far more than for deconstructing an item you created yourself - that gives you almost no inspiration).

They do provide some inspiration, but only a very small amount. They also can provide materials when deconstructed, they just have a much lower chance of it than other items.

Adding to UrQuan's post that you don't get much inspiration from creating items. The best source for inspiration is from deconstructing items. So, if you don't have someone to trade crafted items for deconstruction, then your best bet is to deconstruct items dropped from mobs. Don't bother crafting and deconstructing your own daggers.

Also at the first tier lv 6 items give you the most xp for your mats. At the other tiers its the first lv available. You need to find someone to trade daggers with though or you'll need to decon all the metal armor/weapons you get from quests to level at a decent pace. Crafting writs also help.

By far the best way to level smithing, clothing and woodworking is to deconstruct items that have the "Inspiration" trait and are made from the highest material you have already unlocked.

Deconstructing items made with materials that you haven't unlocked yet will only yield diminished returns. That is important to know.
So even if your character itself is low level, make sure you always have as many skillpoints in what materials you can use to craft even if your character can't actually use them yet.
This allows you to get maximum benefit from deconstructing.
